Ken, looks like your area is going to get dumped on again. I hope you and your family and the other friends I have down that way all fare better this time around. Being on the boat might get you out of the house, but not likely out of harms way.

i live in the northern part of mississippi now about one hour from the tennessee line , the storms are mostly fizzled out by the time they reach up here , except for the tornados and rain , so we should be in decent enough shape unfortunaly im the only one in my family up here and all the rest live in louisiana and on the storms present track its not looking good but all you can really do is get out of the way and let nature take its course..

Maybe we could ship the Army Corps of Engineers and all of FEMA in ahead of the storms. With them out of the way something might actually get done on the clean up.

All the problems that Katrina revealed was not all the Feds fault. My son was living in NO and he said the State and City Gov.was the biggest problem. It's sad that politicans ego's get in the way when a crisis happens. This time the Feds took the initiative and ran the show.

Didn't say all the problems were their fault, just that 90% of the allocated money got sucked up by their corrupt buddies and the guys actually doing the work got stiffed. For instance $150 a square was allocated for blue roof and the guys actually doing it got $15, and some of I know them never got paid at all. I know a lot of people who went there to work the clean up and it broke all of them. I was one.
N.O. mayor was a pud but that didn't shift any blame from a very obvious corruption of layers upon layers of sub contractors admistered by Fema and Army Corps of Engineers. I was working in debris removal and there was 5 layers of "contractors" before it even got to people who were in the field, then 3 more layers down to us. The money can't trickle that far. There was no program for people in east Texas who lost everything trying to make an honest buck helping clean up the mess.

willowbilly3,my son was running a roofing supply business in NO when Katrina went through,You can't believe some of the stories he has told me.He said people were coming in there putting up false business fronts and sub-contracting out to other people who knew nothing about construction, etc.A total waste of dollars.

Some legitimate contractors came in and ripped the people off,not finishing the job properly they were paid to do.

Several of those contractors (people that bought from my son) are either doing time for their greed or still under litigation.

It was such a massive catastrophe that no one was ready for, including all levels of Gov.Hopefully we have learned a lesson.

I worked the shelters here in Austin and sorrounding areas, believe me it is not a pretty scene seeing people so helpless and depending on what help they can get from others.
