I will reload the software and try your idea a later today Matt, I sure hope it works.

Download Ubuntu Linux 8.04 and burn it to a cd, run the cd in vista and click on install in windows. it will leave Vista in tact, but allow you run Ubuntu, which is more compatible with things like this.You don't know what you've got til it's gone

I use the Windows Explorer program to get to the camera. Computer treats the camera (on a USB tether) as a hard drive and assigns a drive letter to it. I don't use the software that comes with the camera, too many incompatibilities with the o/s.
Vista is pretty, but I hate it. Can't wait for the next version, I hope they get it right next time.

What Bob said.
When plugged in the camera should show up like an external device/drive. You should be able to open it up and manipulate at the file level.

I think the next widows version is going to be called Mac for me

What memory card do you have in the camera? SD card? Does your computer have a card reader? I have never had a problem with reading a memory card on Vista. No disrespect but most errors ar caused by the user. I have had digital cameras for years but always used the card reader not the cable.

No offense taken, I'm as computer stupid as they get. It is an SD card and I am just assuming that it has a card reader because I thought they all did by now. How do you check?Seth

Most newer computers have card reader slots in the front. If yours does not, you can purchase an add on card reader at places like walmart, bestbuy, circuit city and office depot. anyone who works in their technology departments can set you up. Your card reader is nothing more than another place to store data.
