Seems sorta sad to me that as years and years go by and more building along the streams add to less area for soak in, that they just build more and more which sends a larger volume of water downstream so when then is a break or overflow it is much, much worse
But of course all of the current attension is on the artic icepack and the sand hole mid east
Most of our country's progress was along the rivers up until the rail roads and later the highway systems----now they are the most neglected----
Sad
I grew up not too far from the Ohio River, and at one time they made a lot of products from using the water to turn machines. 1937 was a year when people that were not born until later knew of the 37 flood. They did what a lot of City’s did that was to put up floodgates, levy’s. That same river use to be used for high speed boat racing, people from all over the Country would come to race. It's a beauty when it's calm but when they start raging its hell. When you see someone home being washed away it makes you think how quick how things can happen, and be taken.

I remember flying out to Colorado in 1993 and looking down at the Mississippi river area. Areas on both sides of the river were under water. Horrible experience even for those use to it. I grew up near the water, and everytime we got a strong Nor'easter, a quarter of the town was under water. Used to make money rowing people from one bar to another.:D
I truly feel sorry for those folks in the midwest. Seems between the tornado's and the flooding they don't get much of a break.:(
We are over fllood stage now, the water is coming over the spillway at the reservroir and most of the housing and businesses along the river in Iowa City and Coralville are flooded. They are expecting another 5' of river rise in the next week. We had the big flood of 93 which was supposed to be the 100 year flood. Now they are saying this is a 500 year flood.
Wait.. I think I might have caught of glimpse of Noah. I'd better go see...
All we can do that's not affected by what's going on is to send out prayers that things get better, and for you guys stay safe.

This a link to flood/rain damage to a track in Corning Iowa that I used to.
That is just awful the water is beautiful but it’s like fire when it’s out of control there is nothing that will stop it. I feel so sorry for all of the people who are affected by this.

Been quite a spring season. If it isn't too much rain and the resulting flooding, it's those awful tornados. Here in Iowa and a lot of the midwest, we are having one of the worst tornado seasons on record. Just tonight, we had about a half dozen in the area (western Iowa) and one with tragic results. Haven't received all the details yet, but 25 miles north of Council Bluffs/Omaha a tornado went through a boy scout camp, killing at least 4 and injuring another 30-40. Prayers and thoughts go out to the victims and their families.
prayers sent for the scout troops.. any word on them yet??
Heard you guys had it rough last night Roofcam... Sirens only went off once last night, but haven't heard that a tornado came down anywhere yet... Tuesday night a friend of mine lost his cabin up at Roy Lake to a tornado, fortunately nobody was staying there that week, it's usually rented out!!!!Quote:
