    Goodguys Indy

We think we are hot rod nuts!!! My friend just called me from Indy; he has his 72 race van. Chris had a bad accident in 1989 he is a quad but he loves hot rods. He has had a 57 Chevy bel air 2dr. sedan that he had restored, and a 57 Chevy Convertible he had it restored. He wants my 55 Chevy to make a gasser out of it but I can’t let it go yet.

I asked Chris how the van was doing? He said he is in a 10.50 class not bad for a van. I asked Chris how close he was to making a run? He said about 20 minuets? I told him to call me so I could hear it going down the strip. My wife said how could he be out in the heat it is 90 we are inside; I just said he loves it.

Chris, just called I could heard the van do a burn out, then he let me know when it was staging, the sound was awesome.

For all of us who think it’s tough how do you think it would be to be sitting in a wheel chair at the starting line waiting for your pride and joy to make a run down the quarter. He was so excited it brought tears to my eyes.

Chris, grew up next door to me In Indiana, and was the innocent victim of a drunk driver. Chris has been like a son to me, and I draw a lot of inspiration from him.

He is going to put the run on youtube tonight I’ll put a link to it.

    Update 6-10-08

The clip just got put on youtube this morning he said they have to check the content {wouldn't want any risqué at a drag strip} Chris just they made it through three rounds. The sponsor wanted too add more fuel but that added more weight.

Check out these other clips, the best time so far was a 10.25

In the beginning Chris made this into a show Van but he liked the racing better.

Here are some previous runs in Muncie as soon as he put s up the Indy ones from today I'll post them.

You know Richard, it's guys like your buddy Chris who put life into perspective for the rest of us. Most people would fold if handed a deck of cards like Chris was given. We complain about our bad knee, or back, or that we don't have enough money, or this or that. Then someone like Chris comes along who has some very serious problems and he says "screw it, I'm not going to let this get in my way" and he doesn't.

If there are heros in this world, Chris ranks right up there among them.

Don, you said it right on, before I saw your reply to this story I was reading about the snobs. I just could let it go, I had to put my 2cents in that thread.

Man I thought you were talking a minivan, a full size van and foot braking it to boot. Very impressive, The 2nd link is I believe actually at U.S. 41 moroco Indiana. Ive logged in some quick times at that track many times. Tell your friend my hats off to him for not only getting it done in his condition, but getting it done in a huge metal box is double impressive.

sorry I did get it wrong!

moooneye777, In case I gave you the wrong impression, it's Chris's van he has a driver that used to run front engine rails. I told Chris he looks like he has a pretty good driver. Funny thing is, Chris's younger brother has run the fastest time of 10.25! Chris has had the van since the early 90's first he had it turned into a trophy winning show van. He got tired of that and then went racing first a small block with a blower. Not fast enough so he has tried several big blocks all with blower's and sometimes a little of the squirt juice. Now he is running E-85.

Chris, does drive a minivan all hand controls, and I am not the least bit concerned when I'm riding with him. It's Chris's Van he has done all of the build planning. When I said he is sitting in a wheel chair watching his pride, and joy going down the track he is by the starting line. If he could get it set up with hand controls, and the safety inspectors would let him he would do it in a heartbeat. Chris told me this morning when I asked how his other van was doing since he had to have all of the electronics’ redone because he drove it so much. Now he said he has carpal tunnel from too much driving.

One of the clips is from Joliet, ill.
