Just filled my Comet up yesterday and gas here has jumped 20¢ in the last week. Our low is $3.89, then $3.99, and $4.09. Diesel is $4.39 or $4.49 depending on which station you go to. I really wouldn't be surprised to see it hit $5 a gallon here this SUmmer. Last year our high was $4.79.

I heard another speech this morning full of the usual requests for freedom from special interest lobbyists, but the party of the speechmaker is the party that scuttled ANWAR oil development and amazingly I was surprised to hear even Bill O'Reilly say last night that environmental concerns in ANWAR are more important than the oil. Maybe O'Reilly should get the "Caribou Award"? I need to keep my cool but it is amazing that such a critical issue can be muddled in politics to such an extent. As mentioned by NTFDAY and IC2 O'Reilly did note the negative effect of speculators.

Not sure O'Reilly is pro econut after listening to some of his rant yesterday, but since I was in and out of the garage and the range of the radio, didn't hear it all so may have taken it out of context. Remember - politics are about politicians keeping their jobs, not about personal convictions - genetically, they don't have any

IC2, That is a good idea, just keep busy in the garage and maybe by the time the car is ready to roll (at least a year for me) Colorado oil will start to come on line. Why worry, just keep busy! I have to figure out the wiring through the Ididit column and the weather is nice so today I will mess with pulling the top plate in the column and adding the dress up kit for the turn signal lever while I wait for some light machining on the double-D shaft fittings. I found that I could not penetrate 5/16" bolts (either grade 8 or grade 5) for castle nut cotter pins but that I could buy repro 5/16" bolts that were meant to hold the large bell housing on the stock Model A to the stock A block as the right length and size WITH drill holes for a cotter pin from Brattons Antiques Auto parts. So I am having the universals drilled across to accept the 5/16" bolts through the D-shaft and cotter-pinned on the other side. Just keep busy, the opiate of the masses (or was that religion?), while the politicians make speeches to make themselves look good!

Sounds like you're doing what I did a while back with my column u-joints - it takes a good drill and a drill press to get through that material. Good ol' Bratton's - I just got my latest catalog a week or two ago. They probably ship faster then anyone and for the most part are very competitively priced.

I am hearing Tony Snow on for O'Reilly today - and sometimes I believe he's actually better.

Gotta get back out - I'm hoping to bolt the body back on the chassis for the last time early to mid next week and still have a couple of panels to wet sand and buff. My wife, I'm sure, will have some "honey-do its NOW" this weekend so probably little progress then.

O'Reilly has one over-riding motivator when it comes to reporting on oil issues. None of the CEOs will go on his show so he's got a vendetta going..................as much as admitted it in one of his mutter comments at the end of a report a couple years ago.

Yeah, the entire oil thing is becoming more and more less significant anyway. About every 5,000 miles or so, unless you leave 'em parked for a long time in the rain. Yeah, you could go longer but then the neighbors would not get to see you working on your toys.

Oil changes are now cheap compared to gas ................

You people over the pond are so lucky with your fuel price's $4.79=£2.50.
Try our price's, £5.00=$9.95. I'm in the middle of a 32 three window coupe
build with 350 Chevy power and TH3550 3 speed auto, that's a hell of a
lot of fuel and a hell of a lot of £££££££££££££££££.

From what some of the people that I post with over there tell me your taxes make up the majority of your fuel price. If we had the same tax rate here, our prices would be right there with your. Which brings me to another point. The Republic of California is thinking about adding another 10 to 25 cent per gallon tax to gasoline because the highways are so bad. That won't help as it will go straight into their pockets just like all the rest of the taxes do.
