I believe the theory is that it is a place to post cars for sale and often times the thread will get hijacked and end up off on a tangent that has nothing to do with the sale of the car, like perhaps a debate about which carb would be better on the car or how you could add a 4-link to it for not a whole bunch more etc.

The moderators can provide a little more insight than I can; but, I'm pretty sure that's the reason.
