We lived on a farm in the 50's. I remember getting a bad cut on my foot and mom "doctored" it with Watkins Cow Salve. I still have the terrible scar but I still have the foot too so the salve must have been a good stuff. Now, if you don't get right to the emergency room for antibiotics the infections could kill you.
I remember using many a catolog page as toilet paper in the outhouse when it was 5 below. You didn't waste a lot of time go to the toilet in those days.
