I went to local area charity shows with my Cobra. Sometimes a couple of my friends would also go with theirs. We all built our cars, mostly did all the major work ourselves. Never went to any show expecting to win a thing.
Anyway it was always rather funny when I/we would arrive. We immediately would have a crowd around the cars. Cobras for some reason always seem to draw a crowd.
At one show in Pt Gamble I was by myself and parked next to a guy with his T bucket(nice car). I'd wandered off to view some of the other rides at the show and as I was coming back the T bucket owner and one of his club buddies were by my car and I overheard his buddy ask Tbucket is it real and ol' Tbucket says in a deriding tone naw it's just one of those 'glas kit cars, cheap p'sos...don't now why they let these guys bring them here. Well I was a bit pissed and said yeah, it's mine it's a kit just like that pos T bucket over there....Tbucket really got pissed at that huffed and walked off muttering something foul....and to rub salt in his wounded pride my pos kit car won a trophy. First show trophy I ever won.
I'm a car guy...I like most anything I see at shows, some not as well as others and I admire the workmanship and skill some of these guys put in their cars. Don't care about the "politics" all that much, don't see the reason for it.
I can understand the guys with muscle cars that are purists, customizers,or all out go-fasters. Same with the guys with the A's, T's, Dueces, 33-48 street rods. But when they start bad mouthing someone because his isn't "correct" I always wonder who made the naysayers the car gods?
