    Loosing faith!!

I have a rant, i need to get out, and i know i can talk about it here, cause you guys and girls seem like the only level headed hot rodders left!

I really wish i could go back to a time a couple of years back, when i did not know any hot rodders hardly at all! I have such a bad taste these days with the whole scene that makes me want to just stay in my garage and work on my truck. The drama involved really sucks these days, i dont know if its always been this way, but all these labels and attitudes suck! I now understand why guys like bob and dave got so defensive, when the ratters came around, im tired of guys (mostly around my age) telling everyone what a "real" hotrod is, and all these deviding lines! This whole "traditional", "period correct" crap , and what makes a club, and just all this stupid im better than you crap, im tired of it!! What`s wrong with just being a car guy? no matter what kinda car it is. Why cant car guys get together without any drama?

I used to love going to cruise ins, and to some shows, now i have no desire!
I really dont even want to go to the billetproof show now, cause of all the statwide drama!! I think im gonna become a friendless hermit!

    Thanks for listening
    John

I feel your pain Last week I was asking about what I called nostalgia dragster . The dragster was actually a early 70's dragster and I got a rude answer about how this was not nostalgia and not worth the money. I did not even get my question answered...... Having something period correct is nice but some of us have not made it to that point yet! Some of us dont have the cash to make it period correct and might have the car but will "skimp" on stuff like the motor. As time passes and more money is in the budget I will make it period correct. As for now Kiss My A$$......

And the thing that pisses me off the most, is the guys forcing this down everyones throats, used to be rat rodders. I believe bob predicted this would happen. It was along the lines of, when the rat fad starts dying, most will go on to something else, but some will learn how to do it properly, and build better cars. Unfortunatly they still like the rough bare bones look, but now its "traditional" so they are experts! Whatever!! Thanks bob!!just kidding.

I know i have allowed myself to get caught in the drama, but i really wish i could get off the ride now!!

Ignore all of the garbage and keep on doing your own thing. I don't normally get too upset until the name calling starts and that rather rattles my chain.

Who gives a crap about what others say? You can't go around in this world pleasing everybody. Everybody can have their own opinion. There will be plenty of nice people to hang with that like what you do as well. I think you need to thicken your skin some, and learn to have some fun with the crap heads that cross your path.

    a timly post!

i attended a swap meet last weekend, what a blast! nice to see a lot of
younger fellas digging in the parts bins for hidden treasures!
well you know it's coming, like a punch drunk fighter i heard bells!
there in the middle of the floor was a '36 ford truck, chopped channelled
rusted ,no floor boards, tranny tunnel built out of old licience plates
the not so old fella was bragging about the money he had into his machine!
lots of oooos and awwws from some of the younger crowd
then donnie heard the bell...hey buddy, put another 20k in it ,and it'll be worth
something, otherwise take it over to the boat show next door and sell it for a boat anchor! the champ wins another!!

I am finally learning to ignore people who say "street rod is a bad word". "If you use a smallblock chevy, it's not a true vintage hot rod". "Don't call my primered, rusty, unupholstered, dirty, shoddy car a rat rod"! "Nothing made after 1964 is worth building, owning, or being called a hot rod". Older guys just want to build those shiney well-designed and well-built cars, so they aren't real hot rodders". Etc., etc., etc.

My impression is that most of the folks that sing this tune are relative newcomers to the hobby....or they can't afford a nice build yet. They usually weren't involved in the '50s...'60s...'70s...'80s....or maybe even the '90s.... but they have all of the answers. They are not bashful about telling all of us that the craftsmanship, advances in design, time proven pieces, favorite cars and parts, or the eras and activities we enjoyed are not valid!

They base all of this expertise on the fact that they have worked on cars for 5 years, have a tattoo, and listen to rockabilly!

Don't let it bother you. It's like a mosquito...it will be gone with the first freeze.

John, have you ever seen the bumper sticker that reads "THE MORE I KNOW ABOUT PEOPLE, THE MORE I LIKE MY DOG?" It is funny because to some degree it is true.

I also find it humorous that the rat rod craze began because some rodders disliked the pretentiousness of "street rodders" and wanted to be free to build cars any way they wanted. Then all of a sudden, some rat rodders started looking down their noses at people they termed "gold chainers" who had a few bucks to put some bling on their cars. Not all rat rodders are this way, just some.

Bottom line, all of us humans have flaws and like to tell everyone else how they should do things...........it's just in our nature. You have to take people with a grain of salt and ask yourself when one of these opinions surface "does this person put any bread on my table?" Until they start sending you a check to build your car THEIR way, their opinion isn't worth the time of day.

Isolate yourself from the forums and car scene for a while, cut and bend some steel, then return to it when it becomes fun for you again. I parked my '27 for 7 years and didn't go to any car functions except Turkey Run.......I was just burned out on it too. Now it is fun again and I'm ready to take in some shows and cruises.

Hope the vacation does you some good bud.

    Don

You just got to learn to turn down the sound. I only pay attention to a select few. To many people trying to make their opinions the gospel. If I listen to all of the voices who were talking at me years ago, I probably wouldn't own any old cars. According to some, none where the right one. Damn glad I learned to turn down the sound and think for myself. My cars may not be typical hotrods, but I'm pleased with them. That's really all that matters.

A good friend will come and bail you out of jail....but a true friend will be sitting next to you saying..."Damn....that was fun!
