Remember folks, Dick down in Florida destroyed my Cadillac motor and transmission. So I picked up this six cylinder last year at a friends salvage yard. I got that and a 200 R4 or a 350 turbo for Marge with 253 gears in the rear end. I’m hoping to have it pretty much together or who knows running later this summer. Only time will tell, but at least it’s a step forward…..joeLast edited by TooMany2count; 04-19-2023 at 10:15 PM.

Roger
Enjoy the little things in life, and you may look back one day and realize that they were really the BIG things.

why did i let ya`ll talk me into this 5 speed swap .. HA ! .. the motor and trans are in place again and bolted up .. the rack is back on .. the trans mount was no big deal and even lined up in the stock location .. even the slanted mount was easy enuff to get around .. i went to install the driveshaft and it was 1 1/2 inches too long .. i did not expect that .. i remembered i had a stock pinto shaft laying in some weeds out back and low and behold it is 1 1/2 inches shorter .. of course i lost the grease fitting when swapping the front chevy yoke on ..it`s gunna take a while to get this thing back up and going .. i find i can only do about 15 minutes a day of work on it .. my back wont let me lean over the fender for more than a minute and i can only get up and down off the concrete floor about 4 times then it takes a week to recover ..i was not able to use the ford style cable pull clutch arm so that is still out there to be settled .. i have the z bar chevy arm in place .. i do remember doing a V8 pinto swap 45 years ago and used a cable operated Z bar and will likely do that again ..iv`e used up all my sick days at work .. can i call in dead ?

We stopped in this little town in S.Dakota for a few minutes.
But before we got there I seen this odd truck while at the Devil’s Tower. Talked to the guy and found out he was from Chile. He started 2 1/2 years ago from Santiago, Chile headed to the southern tip of Chile and then headed to Alaska. After he went to Alaska he headed to Washington and headed East driving his Amarok VW PICKUP.Last edited by TooMany2count; 06-16-2024 at 08:56 AM.

Devils Tower - been there, Sturgis, yep, been there.... Met a guy from Chile driving a VW Amarok? That's a once in a lifetime encounter I'd think.

Maybe I missed something here Hoss. I realize you already have parts, but why not just use a V8 Monza bellhousing (which as far as I know is the only cable operated bellhousing Chevrolet produced) and throw out arm. They show up on a regular basis on E Bay. They do take a 153 tooth flywheel, but those are available from Summit (about $100) and take a 10.4” clutch. They use a standard Chevrolet throw-out bearing (short I think but not sure). If you need a heavier clutch cable a V8 Mustang II works and last I checked they are available too.
That’s the route I took when I built the 87 Ram 50 with a 283 and T5. It was basically a bolt in. I ended using a Light duty S-10 T5 which required a spacer between the trans and bellhousing, but that’s something you shouldn’t have to worry about.

I saw last night on fb about John. The world sure lost a great one. I'm going to miss his humor, advice, and perspective from another portion of the world. Rest in Peace Johnboy.
