Some of you guys and gals who have been around here for a while know that my son has had to have several spinal surgeries to correct his scoliosis issues. He is scheduled for surgery this Monday and I received a call last night from Shriners in Philly that there is a shortage of O- and O+ at the Red Cross Blood Bank and that his surgery might have to be cancelled (we have been waiting two years for him to make it into the surgical rotation). I immediately got on the phone with the local (to the hospital) blood bank and found out it's not just an issue locally, but nation wide...So here is my plea, if you have either O- or O+ blood and have not donated in the last 6 months, I beg you to do so now, TODAY. If you are in the tri-state area of NY/NJ/PA, you can tell them it is specifically for my sons surgery this coming Monday at Shriners/Temple U Medical Center........

Again, I'm asking for everyone to help out here, does not make a difference whether you are on the east or west coast, just go out and donate......I've helped you guys out in the past with whatever I could, now it's your turn to return this favor...Not for me, but for my son and everyone else who might be in need of blood.......

I'll thank everyone in advance, I know you'll do the right thing and spread the word as well.

 Sincerely,

Bill S.Instead of being part of the problem, be part of a successful solution.

Wow Bill, we wish you and your Son well on this one. I'm not that blood type, so can't help, but my prayers will be with your family. I know you guys have struggled with this matter for some time now, and I hope this is a final solution for your Son.

Unfortunately I'm on meds that preclude blood donation (and I'm A- anyway), but you guys are on my prayer list. Hang in there.A baby seal walks into a club.

I'm Ab positive, but when I get to work I will send any of my employees that are the correct blood type that will go to the red cross, I know they will help.

It's been since Feb that the last time I donated. Bill's right, no matter where you live there are shortages all over. I happen to be O- and there is always a shortage for the O types here. I guess I'm heading in this afternoon. What if the "Hokey Pokey" is what it's really all about?

I am A+ myself Bill, so I can't help out there. I also don't know if they'd take blood so soon after my operation???? I will check it out this afternoon anyway.

I hope the best for your son and you.Duane S

 Bill,
The best of luck to you and your son. While I can't give - I have, according to a doctor, some unpronounceable liver condition that has no effect on my life, but precludes me from donating my AB+ blood to anyone.

What I will do is to give a call to a few friends and suggest that they pass the word as well as donate themselves. It looks like most forums but the Ford truck that I subscribe to are covered and I'll do that now.

Me and my family prayers for you and your family Bill, especially your son. I live too far a way and also have A+. but I think we all need to remember to give blood when we can. We never know who will need that pint we just gave.

Dang it, Bill, I'm O+ but I last donated only three weeks ago so I'm ineligible (I'm on a regular donation schedule and they call me in as regular as clockwork).

My son is out of the country and will be back Sunday night. He's O-. Could a donation then be credited to your boy's account?

Also, can a donation in Texas be credited to his account? I'm sure he would be more than willing to help if he can.

Thoughts and prayers are with you,

 Jim

Many prayers on your son, Bill. Our band is doing a concert for a Sunday night worship service at a local church, we'll be sure to mention him and ask for blood donations.

Thanks guys, we appreciate all you have done and all everyone else can do. Keep us in your prayers going into Monday as we will be in pre surgical around 5:30am and surgery is scheduled for 10:30am...........Should not last more than 4-6 hours.....When I get back to the shop on Tuesday, I'll post and let everyone know how it went.
