Here's something Dave and the rest of the Ford Boys should get a kick out of

Actually from the picture, it looks like this give-away car was a bottom of the line Plaza 2rd post (like what I started with), not a Belevedere 2dr HP like the one buried.Last edited by Mike P; 06-09-2007 at 05:22 PM.

Boy if they would have kept that car, they could take it to the celebration next month, and make a fortune.

Spent the day checking out a few things on the car and everything looks good.

I'm leaving ot Tuesday evening and should be in Stroud OK on Wends and Tulsa on Thursday (the day before the unearthing).

I came across these web sites for watching the unearthing (pulling it out of the ground) and unveiling (displaying the car for the first time) in case anybody want's to watch it on their computor.

unearthing 12 noon (CST) 15 June

 www.oklatravelnet.com

 unveiling 7-9 PM (CST) 15 Jun 07

 www.kotv.com

Of course I've got to wonder what happens if they open up the vault and only find a big rusty swimming pool with a beer can floating on top I've NEVER seen a car come from the factory that couldn't be improved.....

They opened the vault today early in the AM to make sure they will be able to rig it out on Friday and then got the heavy equipment out of the way and have put up a fence so no one can see in... a friend of mine caught some pictures in the meantime:

Suffice to say the vault did not hold. The car is also coated is cosmoline and wrapped in plastic so who knows.

The earth in that area is red, so the stains are probably from that. The fins, hood, and roof certainly held shape. Its hard to say if the trunk is collapsed or not.

Thought you guys might be interested

Doesn't look good for the roofline, take a close look at the pictures and you'll see it not only dented in, but what looks like a hole in it as well. Could just be the angle of the plastic tarp and the pictures, but I guess we'll find out soon enough. Of course it looks like the water line on the fault was up past the middle of the body line, so unless the plastic held with no leaks, there might be some real long term corrosion to deal with as well.

Bill S.Instead of being part of the problem, be part of a successful solution.

Well. I was going to post the "rumor" I just heard, and looks like someone beat me to it. Here's a link to some more pictures.

Don't know what the city is planning on at this time ....I suspect they will have to go on with it.

The web site they listed for live viewing of the extraction of the car is

 www.oklatravelnet.com noon CST

And the web broadcast of the unveiling is going to be

 www.kotv.com 7pm CST

 Both on the 15th

Anyway the trip so far. The car ran great from the time it went together in Nov until yesterday afternoon. The needle valve in the primary carb got a piece of crap in it and decided to flood.

An old timer....at least older than me showed me a trick some years ago that I will share. On a flooding carb, use a pair of neddle nose vice grips and pinch off the rubber hose to the fuel inlet of the carb (as a last resort, in inlet to the fuel pump can me closed if the fuel in is hard lined from the pump, but your better off if there is a a place to crimp it between the pump and carb). After the line is shut off, start the car and put it on a high idle. Just as the engine starts to die, release the the vice grips. If it's just a chunk of crap in the neddle and seat this will generally wash it out. The 57 cleared out and hasnt been a problem since (we put 1000 miles on last night)

We left last night about 5:30 Pm and drove straight through to Stroud OK, which is about 60 miles fom Tulsa. A bunch of us are meeting up here today. I was the first to arrive about 12:30 this afternoon. Had lunch with the local club member who set up the gathering here and heard about the Plymouth in the vault. I guess we'll see for sure on Friday.

The car did great didn't miss a beat and ran all night at 70-80 MPH. The cruse control was a god-send. We averaged 20 mpg (19 sometimes 21 others). I think 1/2 the bug population of New Mexico commited suicide on my windshield last night, ran through about 50 miles of fog in Texas, then some rain here in OK. I couldn't be more pleased with how the Plymouth is doing.

Only minor problem is that I lost a hub cap last night sometime. Good news is that a new set will be in at a local parts store tomorrow morning.

While it doesn't look good for the buried car I don't think it or the rain can stop the monemtum of the party that's growing here.

Well I've been awake for 24 hours now, (and this post probably shows it) so I'm goping to get some sleep.I've NEVER seen a car come from the factory that couldn't be improved.....

 Yo Mike!

Keep the faith! Manufacturing plastic bags back in '57 was not encumbered by any sense of environmental consequence! If they put a good seal on the bag...who knows?

But I'm really enjoying hearing your travel tales. Keep it up!

 And send pictures!

Thanks!...at least I'm enjoying the ride!

Living here in Tulsa I get the opportunity to see and hear all the events and circumstances pretty much firsthand, not to mention working about 3 blocks from the car.

Sadly, there was water found in the vault, but I haven't heard if they know how long it's been there. I'm going to take a walk down there today and see if I can peek inside.

To agree with a previous poster, I don't think Tulsa has ANY idea what it's in store for. I hope we're ready for it! We have some very inconvenient construction of downtown streets going on right now - not the best city planning on that one, but hey, I'm not the Mayor (yet).

I'm SO pleased that this historically cool event takes place in MY city, though!! Yay, Tulsa!!

I am curious to hear about the cars condition. Sometimes things in the sea are actually somewhat preserved by being completely submerged. I wonder what the situation will be with this car?
