Brakes suck! I finally got good brakes on my 72 Scout but it was a battle. It started off with only the right front brake working, I bled everything and things were better but not good. I pulled all the drums off and inspected the wheel cylinders and found all but the one working had one piston that was stuck. I put all new cylinders on and new drums and brakes on the rear ( they were grooved up and too thin to get turned again ) and I ordered new brakes for the front just because everything else is new. I tried putting the new shoes on the front but the ones I was given were 2 1/4 wide and mine measured two inches wide. Fine, I'll put the old ones back in, they looked good anyhow. I tried bleeding the brakes, boom, the master cylinder blows, crap. Put a new master cylinder on and everything bleeds except the front passenger side. I investigated it and found the brake hose collapsed, so I put on new front brake hoses, time to bleed brakes. Boom rear steel line leaking everywhere because it was apparently nearly rubbed through before and now it got mad at me for disturbing it while putting on the wheel cylinder. I replaced the rear line, bleed everything adjusted the brakes and took it for a spin. Now it pulls to the right. I tried adjusting the shoes but it would not change so I called the parts store and asked him to order me new front shoes but my shoes measure 2 inches not 2 1/4. He called me back later and said the only ones that used a 2 inch shoe were the 71 scout, well mine are 2 inch so we might as well order them. I got the shoes and the driver's side was fine, I took the passenger side off and noticed the shoe was 2 1/4 on that side🙄. So someone did some part swapping at one time and that was the final reason it was pulling to the right, it had a bigger brake. Long story but I now have, 2 inch 71 Scout shoes on the front, nearly everything is new and it finally stops good 😄
