The Scout was developed to compete with the Jeep CJ, which was pretty much all alone as a rugged off-road capable vehicle. When IH brought out the Scout, Jeep updated to the CJ-5 in '64 and produced them in a bunch of formats until '87 when the YJ took over. Ford jumped in with the original Bronco in '66 and built them to '96.
Jeep was the lone rugged off-road vehicle for a long time, but then IH brought the Scout, Ford followed with the Bronco and Chevy with the Blazer. Yours is a piece of the early history!!!
