Here's a little update on the 48. I decided to go through the brakes first and it needed the expected, seal kits in everything and new front shoes as the old linings were coming loose. It might get hoses too because these are 71 years old, although they look very good. I took the front pulley off to put a seal in and I thought I would give it a quick compression test via finger over the spark plug hole and I found that 4 and 5 had zero compression. I pulled the head off and found that I had three valves stuck open and they were pretty stubborn about coming loose. I felt the valve guides and they were terrible so I pulled the valves to replace the guides and thought I might as well pop a piston and see if I can just re-ring this thing. Nope. The top ring groove was terrible, It has .023 slop up and down so it needs new pistons and I don't like putting new pistons in ugly holes so I'll yank the block and get it bored. As one thing leads to another this motor is a 218 and from what I understand the only difference between a 218 and 230 is the crank and rods. I have a 230 in one of the other Dodges I took home but it's stuck tight. I would to get them out and put them in the 218 but it could suck so I not sure if it's worth it.Seth
