Wow, yet another Chinese parts horror story. I’ve never heard of heads failing quite like that.

There's a big aftermarket diesel parts builder in Texas. When he started having heads cast in China they had the same issues. The metal just crumbled when you torqued the head studs. If you ported them they would almost disintegrate and go through the engine. It was a bad deal because a bare head was $2400 at the time. Now, on the other side of that coin...... I've been using stock casted 5.9 12v heads that come from China and I've had really, really good luck with them. Where's that balsa to knock on? :LOL:

We tried an 8.3 Cummins head from China once, that cost us and the customer a lot of money. It was on for one year and the valves went through the seats and the guides were junk. We ended up buying a used Cummins head and rebuilt that one and throwing the China one away.
