1949 Dodge Pilot House Rat Rod......

As the title states. Building a rat rod truck. 49 5 window Pilot House cab, 83 D150 chassis, 93 D350 Dana 70 dually rear axle with 93 D350 front hubs and wheels. It's a shorty dually.

Anyway, until I can get some pictures of the truck, as they are all in my other computer that's dead, here are some of the engine. 1956 Chrysler Fire Power 331 Hemi truck engine, .040 over. 9.3:1 static compression ratio. Custom grind Oregon Cams solid camshaft, .453 lift, 240@ .050" duration ground on a 106 lobe separation.

I found the intake from a fire truck that had two very large one barrel carburetors and got Trans Dapt adapters for two GM 2GC two barrels. Desktop Dyno says about 360 HP and close to the same in torque. I didn't build it to drag race, but to be a reliable cruiser to have a lot of fun with.

    More pictures forthcoming.

I did find a few pictures on my Facebook page. The Hemi the day I brought it home and a few of the rat truck.

Most unusual mirror mounts! LOL... and a sad looking motor. Much better in the upper pics tho!

Serious mismatch of static compression ratio to camshaft timing @0.050" valve lift.......9.3:1 static compression ratio will want about 210 degrees @0.050" intake. You are going to close the intake far too late to contain any cylinder pressure with 9.3:1 SCR. I don't know everything, but I will bet that this motor will be a pooch. A 240 intake @0.050" cam will want minimum 11.0:1 SCR to compensate for late closing intake valve.

Well, you would be correct were it not for one thing. This is a solid flat tappet. As such, it will "act" about 10* smaller @ .050 than the same size hydraulic. So it's a fairly decent match........that said, I was not looking for something to splatter me against the seat. I want the old Hemi to sound nasty, and it will. Also, I installed the camshaft at 98* intake center line, so that will bring back the bottom end torque and cylinder pressure that would have been lost otherwise. One more thing......first gear in that 833 OD is 3.09:1. That's a 10.93:1 first gear ratio. I don't think it will struggle comin outta the hole. lol

That's a pretty nice cab on it! Usually they are rotted and beat to death around here. Is that your chevelle shell in the background?

No, that belongs to a friend. He bought it new in 1970. It's a numbers matching LS5 car. It's out now getting paint and body work done after I rebuilt the drive train.
