Took the rod out for a spin today and didn't get a 10th of a mile down the road when we came across a hot rod 32 roadster pickup. What's the chances? Stopped and chit chatted for about an hour and just plain talked about cars. A really nice guy. Even had the wife and I setting behind the wheel of his ride! Apparently this pickup used to be owned by the one and only Gene Winfield! He says the title still has his name on it as does the door of the truck. Actually the truck is signed by a bunch of people in the industry.

So we were on the way to the upholsterer and I wanted to check the speedometer to see how accurate it was. After changing the gears in the rear and putting bigger tires on it, I figured it was gonna be way off. To my shock and amazement I was pleasantly surprised that it was just about dead on with my Impala as we drove next to each other. I also would like to say just how bad ass that thing looks driving down the highway. This just reaffirms that we made the right decision to sell the 33 in order to get this car. I'm just happy seeing her finally driving a hot rod. This is gonna be so much fun! Oh and before I forget...she is getting her steering wheel wrapped so it feels better in her hands.. Picky picky picky. LOL

That is very cool! It is a great feeling to have one to ride in and drive. Definitely makes the drive to build more go crazy in my head any how.

I haven't posted in a while. I have a little update on the 32's interior. He said the whole job was going to take 2 weeks and it's taken him 2 weeks just to get the old interior out! I know people that have had interiors done by him before and expected this so I'm not surprised. Just hoping it doesn't take 4 months. Says he's been sick and he sure did sound sick when I spoke to him yesterday. Time will tell.

Well we're 3 weeks in and still no interior. Now his excuse is the embroidery wasn't right so he is having them redo it. Says he has pictures of it and he is gonna send them to me. I'm not holding my breath though. Tough to find a good inexpensive upholstery guy around these parts so he kinda has me over a barrel but he isn't getting any recommendations from me I'll tell ya. And the 34 isn't going to him that's for sure.

What is it with paint and interior guys anyway? I have heard more "just need a little more time and now it's been a year" stories than any other profession I can think of.

They get too busy too fast and take on more than can handle. Sometimes it's better to say no I can not take any more work for awhile. The down side to that is when you free up, you have no new business. A business has to grow to survive, but sometimes it's hard to wade through the alligators to drain the swamp.

I know but it's a tiny 3 window coupe with vinyl interior. It's not like I'm going with ultra leather and all kinds of fancy sculpting. Just 2 tone with pleats. If I had a heavy duty sewing machine I'd probably have at it myself. Don't get me started on paint and body guys. $100-$150 per hour? Your doing body work you're not a lawyer!!!

I did the majority of my interior myself because the rest of the build dried up my budget. So, I decided to tackle it myself. Worst case scenario--I would have to eventually take it to a shop once I had funds. But as it turned out, it was not that hard. I had a shop upholster the seat based on a photo i provided, and he sewed and installed the coverings for the dash, console, and garnish mouldings. I did the rest. It was a matter of getting the appropriate materials, using the correct glues, and knowing how to make patterns. If I built a new car, I would probably do it again as it saved me a lot of money and . . . I enjoyed doing it!
