Will be cool to watch this come together...
Thanks! I went ahead a roughed together the frame today; I just used the front unibody rails as a guide and will transfer over the existing engine mounts and K-member mounts. It narrows right after the drivers seat and has just enough room for the passenger seat at the small end. Swing arm for the rear wheel will mount to the narrow end.
Pat, the the things I have watch you build over the years amaze me.
It's never a dull moment when I read your build posts....joe
this will be a cool one. I was driving to work behind a three wheel Morgan yesterday!
Thanks, guys. I think the whole 4 and 6 cylinder front wheel drive platform is a huge untapped resource for car builders. You can buy running cars for 400-500 bucks all day long. Our imagination is our only limit on what we can do with them.
Nice cutting off the old hull, and what a fast frame set up! Nice work!
I agree, this part went quickly!
I laid the frame and the unibody front section side by side, drilled out the spot welds on the front suspension mounts, and transferred them over to the new frame. After a lot of measuring and remeasuring from different points it looks like they are in the right spot and everything is square. The goal is to get a rolling chassis and then figure out the drive train mounts.
Falcon, Cool project! I just went through Missouri's specialty constructed vehicle program myself, not only do you need a copy of all the parts titles (that are clear) you need a notarized affidavit, bill of sale for all the parts as well if the are purchased second hand!! After buying my latest rides seats at a swap meet (with non of the above) I found myself having to go to the ol' Pick n Pull digging through a fiero to nab its seats just to get the bill of sale (notarized) with VIN on it to satisfy 'em. If the part comes from a junk yard they will punt on the copy of the title as long as the VIN is printed and attached on a receipt! I made a file with what it took to get the license & VIN if your interested. Good luck looks like a fun project. Matthyj
Thank, yeah I would be interested in that info. If I use all the Parts from one car and that title is in my name, do you think I'm in the clear?
I got the suspension mounts finished today and bolted the IFS down for a test fit. Looks like everything is square. I also cut one side off of the rear axle and will use this piece to make the rear swing arm. I dont know what they make that axle material out of but it destroyed several heavy duty sawzall blades before I got through it so it must be pretty stout.
It's nice to finally see the layout, I was having a hard time envisioning your words... yep! I'm more of a pictures type of fella!
Same here; it's just all in my head at this point.
Rear seat would benefit from a short pedestal, so the passenger can see over the driver's head.
Another interesting point: since you are using all car parts, when you are done it should still be legally a car, with same vin- so no helmets required?
