Lookin' really good, BAM! You've done a ton of top drawer work on this truck and you should be proud of the results!
Coming along real nice! It is going to be a very clean looking truck. That's a lot of work going into the bed. Interesting solution for your gas filler too. I like your thing of doing black primer and then gray, good idea.
Thanks a lot man, I'm just happy I'm getting to the end of it. Now I just have to find time to keep working on it.
Thanks and yes there is a lot of work in that bed, too much.lol But I like it and I wanted it and thats what counts. At least thats what I tell myself.lol
Very nice Bam!
.
Bam, thanks for sharing the videos, good to see the updated progress. You're getting close now!!
Finally got the bed painted

I also decided to make a center console. I will have it upholstered to match the seat.

Nice job painting the bed. Did you have to crawl inside to spray the inside?
Thanks man. Yeah I had to crawl under the front panel and paint the inside. I also had to roll around on a wet floor on a creeper to paint the underside hard to reach places. Now doing that six times (3 coats basecoats and 3 coats of clear coat), no wonder I'm sore today.lol
That looks beautiful!
Your pickup is turning out beautiful. That's one thing I would like to change in mine sometime, put in a column shifter and a front console.
Great work! I really like the console. I'm going to do something similar on my 40. I just need to do what you just said. Get out there and do it. I just need to find that spare time stuff.

For those that are interested here is a video of my makeshift paint booth setup after I painted bed.

Wow Bam that's a Great looking truck, love the gas filler location ! Your soo close to having it done !
That's a great paint booth! Very innovative, very functional! Just more great work from Bam!
That's the same thing I have my Camaro parked in. Now it can double as a paint booth. Great idea Bam. That bed looks great!
This is an incredible build BAM - you should be VERY proud of all the work you have done to get to this point. The truck is absolutely beautiful. Hope you get a chance to get out and enjoy driving it this summer as you certainly deserve some relax time!! Be prepared for a lot of thumbs up and complements.

Times 3 from Me! Beautiful.
Well I got the wood stained and protected.
Stained. I mixed three stains to come up with this color. It very close to the matching my seat. I like it.

To protect the wood I decided to use Total Boat Marine Gleam Varnish Gloss. I like it because you can do like 3 coats a day with an hour or 3 hours between
coats depending on the weather. I used a foam brush to apply it.

That's going to look great!
I know I'm probably asking a stupid question, but you're putting the same finish on the bottom side too, right Bam?
HA HA Ha, Lol!
No such thing as a stupid question!
That's what my drill sergeant said, so that the stupid ones would open their mouths and reveal themselves!
I'd say you've got it covered Bam, as expected from your attention to details to date! It's amazing how many guys will spend hours making a beautiful piece of furniture, especially for outdoors, and only finish the top saying "Why would I waste finish on the part no one will see!! Then the top warps.....
I'd say that what you maybe saw as a stupid question from a stupid guy may have saved someone's life later. If the guy truly didn't know, then to him the question was important, and helped him learn. The most dangerous guys are those who don't know and try to BS their way through a problem. Your Drill Sergeant likely understood that....Quote:

I had great drill sergents, both times!
Well I got some of the wood installed, but I have to stop here until I have some of my buddies come over to help install the bed on the truck. I have access to the bolts that mount it to the frame at this point.

That looks really nice Bam! I remember we built a 54 Chevy half ton at a body shop I worked at years ago. The worst thing I hated about that truck was the way the bed attached to the truck. The bolts went through cross members we made to secure the bed to the frame. That was a normal thing. But then the owner had us put the wood floor over them and we had to clearance the wood to lay on top of the bolts. So in 5 years when the truck came back for work, we had to pull the floor to pull the bed without scratching any of it. It sure looked cool having no mounting bolts in the floor though.
