the grill and headlites make me wanta git going on Robins car--
I'm a fan of the big truck type headlights too Jerry and must admit, the '33/'34 Fords of any body type just lights my fire. Jim, you are creating one very fine looking beast here, so thanks for posting and allowing us to follow along.
Lookin good there Jim..
When do the other panels get painted?
I like big headlights as well (it's okay my wife knows...LOL) Those are stock car size Drake reproductions not commercial truck lights. To me the cars of this era look hokey with 7" Dietz lights on them. Though I will admit I have a soft spot for the guide 682-C lights. In fact I was going to use them. I had a set on there and just couldn't pass up the bigger stock units. Thanks to all of you for watching. Your comments make it all worth while. Well, that and the fact that I get to drive this bitch some day kinda does it for me as well.

I suppose the spring once it warms up again. I have a bunch of stuff to do yet that could potentially damage the paint so I need to finish those things first. I have to fit the grille, splash aprons and hood. I'm putting an old style soft top on it with a 1000 holes and rivets. I have to glue the glass in, mount the wiper. Then you have the seat install and the in and out 1000 times with wiring, insulation, sound deadening, dash, some kind of inner structure to fasten my seat belts to and panels for the upholstery. Wow I have a lot to do. Making myself sick thinking of all that. All this by spring? It's gonna be a long winter!
Long winters allow lots of time for projects. Enjoy!
Yep-the winters aren't long enough anymore-result of global warming or climate change? maybe culture change for fart cans or suvs?
Too long for me. All that money thrown away on heating the house my Mom's apartment, and the 3 bay garage under her makes for a very costly time of season. Though it beats the hell out of building a hot rod outside in the snow. Been there done that. Not for me anymore.
They say LP and NG are suposed to be the lowest they have been in years. Hopefully that holds true. Haha I deal with winter because I have to. Last Friday and Saturday morning I had to install a VP44 injection pump on a 5.9 out side. It was a high of 24*. This week in the 30's and this weekend in the 50's. That's my luck. Haha
Ouch! I thought 49° in my garage was bad. Guess I'm spoiled. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?f...7822465&type=3
Speaking of spoiled: it's near sixty and sunny, I'm going to take advantage of it!
Just checking in but no real updates. I lost my Mom on 12/9 and have been real busy with all that. Even though things have calmed down a bit and I have time off from work (winter shut down). I am still in a funk and just can't seem to get motivated. I still find myself wanting to be quiet in the shop and garage even though she is no longer above me. I suppose this feeling will pass, but for the moment I'm still dealing with the change. Hoping to get back at it soon.
Sorry for your loss, Jim. Even when one can see the end coming it's still a hit to the emotions when it happens, and the grieving process is different for everyone. The constant is that time seems to ease the burden as good memories become treasures, and any bad ones fade.
Put in a sterio system and turn it up loud enough she can hear it-----
Andtake 2 glasses of wine out there------One for you and----------work til they are gone
So sorry for your loss. As time passes it will get better, and hopefully soon for you when you go into the garage to work it will bring a little smile on your face knowing she is above...
Jim, so sorry for your loss Jim! Try to enjoy some of that hot rod therapy and take care!
Sorry for you loss.
i still mourn the loss of my mom 20 years now.
Thanks guys for the thoughts.
I attempted to calm my nerves today. I went down to the garage and worked on the soft top for a couple of hours. I took lots of internet pictures with me. I have been unable to get anyone with a real 34 Tudor to give me accurate dimensions so I said F%@K it and just winged it. I measured and measured and using painters tape have it all laid out. The wife gave me a hand. Stretching the tape out over an 8 foot span is pretty tough to do alone. I used a 7" cutoff wheel to form the front corners and a 9" cookie plate to form the rear corners. I put a slight bow in either side because they didn't come straight from the factory. Then I came upstairs and remembered that I have a 1/25 scale model of a tudor sedan. I'm going to pull some dimensions and see how close I am. I kinda like it where it is so I may just start drilling holes. The nicest part was a couple hours of total bliss not thinking about anything but the car and my sweetie by my side.

What's the plan? Will this be a faux piece sitting on top of the roof that's there?
I suspect it may be late, but if you would still like the measurements from a steel car I could measure mine this weekend. Phil
Way to go Figure8, Now you're participatin'!
It's good to see you here too.
Nice lay out work!
Wow and he, Figure8, joined way back in October 2006 and now has 3 posts. Welcome young man and hope to see your name pop up more often. Does the Juliano's top kit not have dimensions for where to drill the holes ? Shame on them if not as I could imagine some people drilling heaps of holes until they get it to fit.
Jim, I'm confused. The Juliano Soft Top Insert Kit is not a faux top insert, it's a full blown kit for filling the hole in a stock top coupe or sedan - Soft Top Insert Kits - Juliano's Hot Rod Parts & Interior Products Now that's not to say that you cannot install it as a faux insert, and I'm hoping that you're not actually cutting the top out of your body, trying to make it look more original. None of my business, but guys with steel bodies go to a lot of pain to fill that hole.
Good reading right here. 1932 Ford Victoria Juliano's Interior Products Top Insert - Rod and Custom Magazine
The Juliano top is used for both purposes. Filling an existing hole or making a filled roof look stock. Sometimes a poorly filled roof or a very old (Cracking) filler roof is easier to cover. I would never cut a hole in the roof and ruin the structural integrity of the car. I already feel bad enough drilling 300+ holes for all the rivets. The only down side is the Juliano top sticks up more than a stock roof and some guys complain it looks like a mattress on the roof. These are the same guys that call glass cars Tupperware. To me it looks just fine.
There are haters everywhere, especially when your car looks better than theirs, gotta ask them, where is the cherry '34 sedan you have located at! If it looks good I don't care if its made of styrofoam it just looks good. Many of us have built both & both types have just as many but different obstacles, I am perfectly happy with 'glass! Real car guys like just that "cars"!
So, my 34 is not only a 'kit car,' it's 'tupperware?' :whacked:
Plastic fantastic I believe it is called. I remember when New Zealand first challenged for the America's Cup and the bloody storm that created with Dirty Dennis Conor because we had built our yacht using fibreglass and they still used alloy, well we won that court case hands down and we ended up with a much faster boat too. Absolutely nothing wrong with Tupperware for strength, lightness and speed.
I used the Juliano's kit on my coupe and yes it does stick up a bit, mostly the edging that covers the aluminum edge.
I used a thinner foam than was in the kit and I think that helps the look a lot. I did make the wooden frame to hold the vinyl taut while I installed the aluminum edge.
Mick
Sweet ride Mick! I think it will look even less noticeable with mine being a Tudor. I have wood for mine as well but I'm just using two 2X4's for the sides because it is just me, myself, and I. Pretty hard to put a wooden frame over a sedan by yourself. Though I will admit my sweetie does help out a lot. Did you glue your foam down?
Jim, yes I glued the foam down but not the vinyl. If you haven't already done yours I have some photos of how i did mine I could post, but sounds like you may have a handle on it.
Mick
Thanks Mick, that was the only thing I was wondering about. I picked up the glue this afternoon but wasn't sure if I was going to use it. As with most thing I do: I learn as I go and this kind of thing is right up my alley. Plus I run through things in my head a few time before I start so I have an idea of what to expect. Probably think too much and not enough doing. LOL But it seems to be working for me on this build; so far anyway.
