this is a long term project that i've been working on for over 10 yrs.it started out with a fibreglass body but i was lucky enough to find a steel one and replace it.i paid a hotrod builder to do the chassis using local fabricated 32 rails and pete and jake suspension parts and a currie 9" diff. all fairly standard hotrod stuff.

i swapped a t-tourer body i had to an old panelbeater who tidied up the body and swung the doors and sorted out the chassis mounting

Love an 'a' roadster on duece rails, great combination and hope to build one myself one day.
yes-its a fairly popular combination and theres some very nice examples on alot of different forums.
the next few photos show where the car sits now and she's patiently waiting for attention which won't happen until i get the A-pickup finished.

Heck that A Roadster is going to be a cool car too. That looks like Terry Furnies from over Papamoa way in the T. You have enough work to keep out of trouble with the pick up and the roadster on the go. Excellent choice for the inlet and carbs. on the small block too.

not much to report on this
bought a swaging machine and box bender to start on the floor/ seating but still have to go up to auckland (our main city) and pick them up-not looking forward to venturing into that horrible place!
going to a swapmeet in town tomorrow to sell some stuff and hopefully find a steering column and wheel.weather looks crap tho and it may be a fizzer.

Real Steel also carries nostalgia not available with fiberglass. I bought one 1929 "archaeology" project but it was too far gone and I sold it cheap. For what it is worth to U.S. readers I realized after I bought the BeBops fiberglass '29 I learned that Bratton's in Maryland actually sells a real steel body for less than the fiberglass body so the only way I saved was in the fun of aligning steel fender because the BeBops floor comes with all four fenders attached. So if you are going fenderless the Bratton steel body might be a good source. The '28 here looks really good and straight so all I can say is that you are a lucky guy to get it, although the most amazing thing about the Bebops 'glass body is that the dimensions are spot on and every repo item I bought fit as good as original except I had to use a '30-31 center hood hinge bracket instead of a '29. Even so I would rather have a steel body because when you touch the steel it is like time machine in knowing how long ago it was made and how much it has been through. You have to use your imagination with fiberglass. I wish you well, it looks like wonderful project.

Hey Mark, harden up man, take a dose of sulphur fumes and jump in the car and just do it. I still am amazed at the number of people who hate Auckland and it's traffic when it is simply no different then driving around Rotorua. My only advise to anybody is do a goggle earth search of the area you need to get too and become familiar with the layout and it becomes easy. Don't rely too much on those speaky in car map systems as I believe they will get you lost real quick. Is it Mt Wellington area you are going to to pickup your tools as if so it is even easier ?:3dSMILE:

about 11 yrs ago i took a 283 mtr into an engine reconditioners an got them to diassemble/clean and rebuild me a shortblock.they bored and put in new flattop pistons/ground the crank etc and i picked up a sparkling new shortblock assembly-knowing i wouldn't use it for awhile i coated it with gibbs lube abd sealed it in a plastic bag with some dissicant and stored it.
fast forward to 3months ago and i unsealed it an started assembling bits to finish it for the 28.
it was in great condition apart from alittle surface rust on the head mounting surfaces which i carefully polished off.

i found some 305 heads and had them checked and recon'ed and assembled a whole bunch of parts ready to finish this motor off.

i'm looking to build an old fashioned looking motor that i can put some different intakes on.it will have a tubo350 behind it an a currie 9" prob 3.25 or 3.5 gears.
the plan is to run it in with a standard manifold an small base rochester 2g 2-barrell.

Definitely looks like you have a bit of everything. This is going to be a killer little roadster. I see a blower sitting on a SBC back there too don't I? :LOL:
I do like that 4 carb set up and I'm a little envious of it. Did you get upto Carbine Road, Mt Wellington, Auckland for the tools Mark ??
yes whip-i had an interesting truck trip to auckland!!!that tool place(machinery house)is a little mechanic boys (like me!) paradise
i really really really wanted to cut loose in there with the credit card but then i'd have to face the wife an life as i know it would be over!!!

engine is fully built and ready to fire - just have the old oilbath aircleaner to mount to the carb and the exhaust to run.

still trying to find a radiator to fit the cutdown 32 grille and I may have to bite the bullet and get a new one built.
had a 65 mustang one( which some people use ) but it doesn't look good and needs some modification around the bottom pipe area.
driveshaft is made and found some old cobys (nz equivilant of smithys) for the exhaust and ready to pull the diff and mount a recon diffhead with 3.0 gears and put the new currie drum brakes on.

also been playing around with the little blower -figuring out how to make a simple v-belt driven drive with an old splined shaft I had lying around and some exhaust pipe!!

The 283 looks nice. Good to hear the hip is healing well. Good luck with it!
a few pictures of some more progress
did a big cleanup in the workshop and lifted the body off so I could change the diff head and mount the master cylinder and brake lines.
I have my second hip op on Monday so I wanted a bit of organisation down here so I could spend more of the rehab time down here in the garage doing some smaller bits and pieces.

ran into a problem with the fact that I supplied an old smlblk and t 350 to the chassis builder and then built this 283 and had another t350 recond but didn't realize there was a short shaft and long shaft so of course the chassis crossmember suits the short and I spent my money on a long shaft - bugga.
thinking of either cutting the whole top pipe out and rebending a new one or cutting out the centre bit of the pipe and welding in a curved piece of 50 x 6 mm flat bar - decisions , decisions ?

Nice big garage and a real steel body with lots of good parts! I always wondered if the steel body was as tight around the distributor as is my fiberglass '29 but it looks the same on yours. An HEI distributor won't fit unless the firewall is modified so I ended up with the same distributor you have only with the electronic conversion. Best wishes for a good recovery with your hip!

with regards to the dizzy , I still have to trim the lip around the top of the short firewall and the same little bit in front of the fuel tank so I can actually get the dizzy in and out with the body on.
good fun tho and I can't wait to get back into it.
Have you called the trans builder to see if he can swap that trans over to a short shaft rather than cut up your frame? Good luck with your surgery too!

cool photo thanks -love the flathead . I actually had 8 flatheads at one stage and was going to put one in the roadster but I found them expensive for machining and parts and complicated so decided to swap them for a 6ta triumph motor cycle project and just have smblk chevs in all my cars (apart from the Pontiac lemans convert)
been back down in the workshop lately. started back at work , but only managing 3-4 hrs in the morning then home for a swim and down into the workshop to potter around .its proving to be quite hard getting back to work fitness but I'm enjoying it so we'll see.
started working on the brakes- the new holden master cyl didn't bolt straight onto the Subaru vac servo so pulled it apart and modified it with some new bigger bolt/studs and removal of two xtra ones not needed.

the turbo 350 long/short issue caused me alsorts of bother until I remembered that I had a couple of other ones in the container and upon looking found another long one and a short one.(duh - senility!!!!) it was originally in the model-a pickup and I had bought it off the previous owner along with the 305 mtr currently in jethro so I was confident that it would be alright. pulled it apart and it looked fine and also had a deep sump and extended filter/pickup so some new gaskets and paint and job done -- no more stress.

man -I like everything about your pickup but that grille.
I just get put off by all the straight lines on the body/deck and then the grille has -------- fallen over.
I guess its pretty obvious ,I'm a tradionalist for the early bodies -either 32 or 28 grille and that later grille goes better with the flowing mudguards of the later cars.
but , thank goodness we're not all the same!!

I guess all I can say is I'm not a "me too" kind of guy. '32 and '28 Ford grill shells have been used to ad nauseam (I have a deuce grill on my '31 Tudor). When I finally decide to sell the RPU the next guy can unbolt the OEM '34 grill, sell it for some large green, and then bolt on the belly button shell of his choice.
