Navy, is it a car hood or a truck hood? Nice fender patching! I wouldn't get discouraged on the front clip alignment. I've been told by a lot of great body and panel guys that the 37-40 fords are the hardest of all pre-war cars to align the front sheet metal on. I would assume it is the same for the trucks through 41 too.Ryan

I took the hood off a 40 p/u, it was just laying on the fenders with no cross member in it. I have a 40 truck cross member with rusted off ends that I'll be splicing new ends on that I cut off a 40 Deluxe hood cross member. Trying to get the front right, it makes the whole truck.Last edited by Navy7797; 11-30-2014 at 02:37 PM. Reason: fingers don't type what the mind thinks

Here's the latest work on the hood. The cross member/brace was needing some repair before putting it in the hood. First on the list was the Hinge studs, I used 3/8 shoulder bolts and turned them down, drilled and tapped them.
To be welded on the back side

Ok here's some more pic's. Front fender repair. as I was grinding off some bondo I ran into more brass what a pain. That was the old way of fixing fenders and I did a bit my self many years ago. Sure splatters when you weld over it.
 Small hole

 cracked lower edge

Still need a bit of grinding and it'll be ready for blasting

Fender/running board mounting holes needed lots of added metal more grinding to come

Wow, It's hard to imagine brass being an inexpensive repair material!

I've not run into brass myself, but I have found lead..
Education is expensive. Keep that in mind, and you'll never be terribly upset when a project goes awry.

AH Brazing! Brings back many (not so fond) memories! LOL..

You've been making good progress, even tho' the parts and pieces have been a bit worn. Keep up the good work and as always thanks for making time to share the pics with us.

Thanks for the reply's guys. I was hoping to drive the truck this summer but I'm going back to work (6 year lay off) building another WW1 airplane so that will put an end to any major amount of work getting done. I'll have some cash flow for the truck and maybe I'll make better use of my time.

Enjoy the little things in life, and you may look back one day and realize that they were really the BIG things.
