As you can see this thing was a mess !!!!:HMMM:
Here's a few shot's of the frame he had.. From the look's of this I wanted to do a whole new frame.. But He decided against it.. He said let's try to work with this... And this is where this look came from on my face.. Ok !!! Here we go..
Well he decided to buy a stainless frontend for it, I said you should go ahead in buy the back to match the front..So he did..
I figured I would do what I can to save this body why waiting..
Frontend came in late one evening and I just had to check out some of the goodies.. Pay no mine to the foot wear.. I wasn't suppose to be in the shop..hehehe
But was soon reminded why I wear shoes in my shop..:(
Time to go back inside..
It was time to get this new floor glassed in..
More on the floor..
Few more of the floor coming together..
looks like a great build
New floor is done.. More to come..;)
Nice work! You sure did start with a nasty one!
Randy - that sure was an ugly start. NICE now. Reminds me of what can be done to these fun cars and almost makes me wish for mine back.
Love the tranformation on this one Randy.
Looks great.
.
Crikey!
That's a transformation!
Well done that man!
.
Thanks Guy's.. Yes this one was a mess for sure..And I should have told him to just start with a new one... But he really wanted this one and I knew It would take some work But knew I could make it a nice one...It didn't scare me..:whacked::eek:
I was going to post more today,, But it's been a long day.. So I'll try to get more posted tomorrow... Man !!!! Didn't realize it's already tomorrow... Good night ..
We Decided it was best and cheaper to just buy a new Bed.. I then glassed it on.. I don't really care to have them bolted on...
Here's the body in a little better shape then what we started with...:)
Remember this.. This Build was on a small budget from the start... I mocked up this car keeping the budget down as much as I could for him... You Builders know how that usually turns out's..:whacked:
Once we reached this point in the build... It was time for a little ride before taking it down to paint..Still wishing he would have let me build a new frame for it..
The ride was great.. My friend got to take his first ride in his new T-Bucket..
Well It's time to take it down and start cleanning and painting.. Bad thing is... My friend lost his Job this point and had to stop on the build.. The car set at my shop for something like a year... Man !!! That's really suck's when them things happen..
A year later and that Chassis is still driving me nuts.. Well.. Time to get back on it after a year off of it...
Stated taking things down to send to paint... Well we decided to blast the frame... Man !!!! When we got this frame back from the blaster... We found things that was covered up with Bondo and paint that just didn't fly with me...
Showed it to my friend and pointed out everything that needed to be fixed.. He said what you think... I said let me build you a new frame so YOU know what you have... He left for the weekend and I started building.. By the time he got back.. I was done with the new frame..
This was a chance for me to make thngs a little nicer then on the old frame... I made the wheel base 4'' longer, And a few other things...I have a lot more pictures of this build but cut it down a little to catch everyone up on this build.. More to come with COLOR on it..:D
Thanks again for making the time to share this build. Love all the pictures and details.
Anytime !!! I enjoy sharing my builds with Guy's that appreciate them.. I know some will like them and some won't.. But when people enjoy seeing what you do it help's... Hope everyone here has a Blessed and safe New Years.. Keep it safe guy's..
Here's a little color to bring in the New Years..
A few more..;)
Next we will be adding a few pictures with some goodies added to the frame..See y'all a little later.. Come back after a few drinks.. The pictures might look a little better..:D
A beautiful job.
Now don't get me wrong, I'm not being picky; but it looks as though some of those welds have been ground smooth.
I only comment because here in New Zealand we're not allowed to grind structural welds.
That's so that the inspectors can see the 'raw' weld and get an instant idea of the competency or otherwise of the fella that did it; whether its a smooth well-run weld, or a pile of bird-s**t that sticks where it hits, and I'm just wondering if your rules are different.
.
I weld almost my whole life..The only thing that has been done to these welds was hit with a polishing pad...We then smooth them out with Filler.. I use to weld X-ray pipe. ;)
Take that back.. I had to go back in look.. A couple filler welds was sanded down a little.. with a polishing pad..But the butt welds on the butt's was Beveled grind and fitted with a 1/8 gap, and filled the same way I did x-ray pipe..
Wow!
My welding is not THAT good!
In fact it's not even close.
(So shutup johnboy and go wash yer mouth with superglue...)
.
I have done this on many chassis I built.. Here's a few I built.. Nothing ever broke..;)
No !!! I don't mind you asking..:)
Here's a few I have done..;)
Ok !!! Back to some more on the t-bucket..
I ran the wiring for the light's and things inside the frame rails.. I wanted to keep it clean..
Few more on the frame..
Now it's starting to look like something..
Few more..
I wanted to add one thing... This is the very first t-bucket I ever built..Be back with more later....
But, to answer Johnboy's question - no home builder Federal requirement on welds - nor even any inspection. As far as any state - probably not and for sure, none in New York State. If there were, most anyone working at a state inspection station wouldn't have a clue. It's amazing what you see - from Randy's to bird poo - they all 'pass' (mine are somewhere between the two levels of quality)
I like the frame, but the highly trained guard cat hanging around the shop is way kewl!!!! Used to have a shop cat, switched to a shop dog about 7 years ago, can't imagine building without the company!!!!!!
