I'm a hard-core "hot rod, drag race, kinda guy"... but when I win that darned lottery.... :-)~

I love all kinds of cars... but in my early years I went through a string of early Vettes. Later I got involved with devin restorations and builds.

For those who don't know, Bill Devin was a factory Ferrari driver... but he is better know as an early pioneer of the kit car industry, building many sizes of Italian looking sports cars called Devins.

I first saw them as Modified Sports class drag cars... like Joe Lunati's Trouble Maker... and Dean Moon's famous Mooneyes car that made many headlines at the drags, bonneville, and Pikes Peak. As the Devin company evolved, they started building turn key cars with either Corvair... or CORVETTE engines!!! The Corvette powered cars were the "Devin SS" model, and only a handfull were built. For a Chevy devotee like me... it was the ultimate Chevy "Cobra killer"!

The blue SS car pictured has an added roll bar, scoops, and aircleaners... but the body, wheels and windshield are similar.

I added pictures of a Roger McCluskey built, "kit bodied", red car. Roger never finished it, but 10-15 years later, I spent a couple years completing for the customer. I don't know where it is today.

I eventually acquired 2-1/2 SS body shells... kept one... and when I was struggling to run my first full-time business, I sold it to an out-of-state customer.... and we built it up to a roller for him, ready for the Vette engine to be rebuilt... and paint and upholstering. Then we shipped it. Pictures of that primered car are below. {:-(

I will never get over living part of my fantasy, then having to give it up. I still can access some partial molds I made... a Devin C (Corvair powered model) that has a partially identical body.... and the result would be a clone of those beautiful little "SS" rockets!

Now I just need those winning lottery numbers, so I can retire from painting and start welding up the chassis, and slinging fiberglass! Maybe someday...
