    55 Chevy stock car

After about 2 years of not working on anything, I am finally starting a car for me. This is an actual stock car that raced in Nebraska and I want to build a street legal stock car. The first couple pics are when I bought her.

This is a pic of me finally getting her home. I really don't know who that is at the front of the trailer because it is not my hair color nor the person who went with me, but at least they are helping. This pic kind of made me confused because of that, but figured my confusion was because I own a Chevy which is NOT my normal taste in cars.

This is the business end of the car which could get me in trouble. It is pretty solid and even has a thick metal grate screen. I have always wanted a big ugly truck that I could push stupid people out of the way such as people who park halfway in a parking stall so that it is hard to go through an aisle in the parking lot.

That will be an ambitious undertaking! I'm sure people have started with less! I hope you can share lots of pics, I can't wait to watch your progress!!

Looks like a fun project!!! The car is the same style of racing that I--and I would imagine a few others on CHR) started out racing in!! Good to see another old race car saved!

I grew up going to the dirt tracks in central Iowa and love that type of racing. My life insurance will not allow me to race so I figure the next best thing is to build my own race car for the street. Do any of you racers have pics of your old cars? I would love to see them.

That is a nice race car cffisher. While in the shower, I thought that a thread on old race cars would be a cool thread. Not sure if somebody wants to start it, but I can contribute some once I scan them in.

Should be a fun build to watch. It sure seems like plenty of sheetmetal was cut away. Do you have a donor car for the needed replacements or are you going to build what you need?

I already have new doors to replace the skins and have a lead on some front fenders, hood and windshield.

Since I lasted updated, I picked up some fenders, a hood and a windshield. That leaves me with the tail light assemblies. I was also able to start working on her again this week after my basement flooded a few months ago. I still have stuff to haul to the dump and then make repairs as we set up work days with the congregation. I just decided that I needed to get back to my stress release.
The first couple of pics are after sanding the roof.

The roof actually looks better than it is. She is pretty dented and so the next few pics are of the damaged marked with a permanent marker.

And so the fun begins. I hammered down some high spots and started pulling out dents. I actually made quite a bit of progress yesterday and am enjoying the challenge. When the roof is done, I know that I will have accomplished a lot, but there is still a lot of car to go.

Well Pastor, you have to start someplace and the roof is as good a spot as any!!! That's some really nice work with the stud gun, sure is a nice way to pull dents and shrink up the high spots!

I bought the stud gun from harbor freight. All the reviews loved the gun but hated the slide hammer because they had issues with it grabbing. Once I got it figured out, the slide hammer is not all that bad. Now if I don't keep the tension on the stud once it is in the slide hammer, it will let go. I think it is going to be a life saver on this project as well as those on the horizon.
