Well apparently I can't stop myself. I was scrolling through FB checking out all the project stuff that I don't need and like usual I send the link to Kari for a joke. For sale items from Knight Armor suits, 60ft bridges and Navy boats get sent to her phone from me I send her a lot of car stuff to and I sent her a pick of this 72 Scout and she said " Oohh, I like it!" Then I thought this could be a good or bad thing. We talked about it for a bit and then let it rest. The next day at work I thought what the heck, I'll message him to call me He called me and he was very honest about the Scout and he lived and breathed these things. He was only 24 but had be buying and selling them since he was 14, he wanted to sell this one to finance one in his area that he was always trying to buy and the guy finally agreed to sell it to him. We went up to look at at it about 1 1/2 hours away but I didn't take money or a trailer so no impulse buys were made. He was a great kid and represented it with 100% accuracy. I took it for a spin while feathering the choke and gas, watching out for when I stop because the left front brake is the only one that works. I said without all the BS back and forth on the price, what would you take for it and he offered a price 1k less than it was listed for and it was the price I had in mind. We talked and I asked if I could let him know in the morning and he said that was fine. Kari and I talked about it for quite awhile and the get out of jail free card was I know I could flip it with a little work and make a fair amount of money. These Scout II's have gone up in value 47% in the last 4 years and they are still climbing fast so I think I'm safe in that area. The plans are to leave it as is for the time being and enjoy it with the top off this summer. If we love it, it well get put ahead of the 82 Z28 but after the 53 Dodge and get a body redo in teal. The pic I posted is the color looks like now if it was shiny and I like that to ( I don't think it will ever be worth the price he got for that one though ) . We'll do brakes and a carb kit for now and call that good for this summer. ( I'm sure I'll stop there )

LOL at Marketplace! Those Scouts are cool after being unloved for so many years back in the day! Sounds like with not too much work you could indeed flip it, but the chances of Kari letting that happen are between slim and none....

Granted I have not been driving it but I'm kind of falling in love with it! If something's on the chopping block it might be the Camaro first as of now, although that one's making me more interest than the stock market right now lol

Sah Weet! Beat the livin snot out of a couple of them �� My FiL had an early one with the half V8 until it rusted away �� my last one tossed the rods out going 55 down the highway

This one has the 345 with a 2300 Holley two barrel and a 3-speed automatic trans.

The kid I bought it from had a few older ones with the half V8 in it, it sure was a different setup. This 345 runs fantastic minus a few dead spots in the carb, however if it eats its pigs, it will be getting a 4.8 or 5.3 4x4 swap.

Today I pulled off the pass fender which was caved in pretty bad in the middle, pushed in on the front and had some spray paint on the top of it. I'm pretty happy how well it went into shape again. I pulled the carb apart and gave it a much needed cleaning and it now it doesn't get as mad when I step on the gas, I do have a new kit coming for it. We filled up the master cyl and got all the brakes to bleed. All the pads and cylinders look real nice and I can tell more brakes are making an attempt to stop but it still pulls pretty hard to the left. All the steering is tight but it drives like a drunk man walking on marbles so I'll have to look into that. I have all new leaf spring shackle bushings coming as well, the drivers side bushings are especially bad. Here is a before and after of the fender, it's kinda hard to see but in was pushed in pretty far.

My late brother in law had one about the same year and with the same drive train . It rode like a hay wagon on steroids, Ive ridden in 6x6's that were betting riding. They are 1/4 ton vehicles mounted on ton and a half frames with stiffer suspension. But they are kind of cute.

It definitely does not ride great but I don't think it was too bad. The same night we test drove another one before this that was in the area and that one rode terrible, the whole thing was a POS. My wife was not interested in looking at another one. This one is bouncy like expected but it doesn't seem rough, Kari also thought it was day and night different.

I suspect the interest in these shot up as the market for the first gen Broncos went nuts in the past decade or so and folks were looking for more affordable alternatives. They are kinda cute.

Your exactly right. The Toyota FJ40 went crazy, then people went to the 1st Gen Bronco. Now their moving over to Scouts. I remember when I was picking up Ryan's Camaro in Arizona, I met a guy with his teenage boy in a parking lot who had a first gen Bronco on a trailer. He asked what I paid for the Camaro and he looked at his boy it says that's why we went with the Bronco, the Camaros are whole different ball game. I hope he still has it, cuz it was a good investment ��

I saw a FB pic with 3rd row seating? I was thinking that there were only 2 rows in '72 and that the Scouts with 3 rows had a 118" wheelbase vs 100" on earlier models?

Let's just say the people way in the back were very uncomfortable lol. In the Facebook pic, it does look like they're sitting on a seat.
