Damn fine work there.
Loving this thread.
Yeah Pugsy the more I look at it , you could not have made a better choice on the grille , and the work is top notch . Watching this car and many others here
Thanks Guys.
May be a while before I get more done.
I'm going to a metal shaping gathering next week in New York State.
I've got to get something prepared to take with me to work on during the meet.
I went down to Dutch Comstock's metal shaping meet and took my decklid with me.
I had to disassemble it to take out some dents.
I found a full skim coat of bondo under the primer and some rot along the bottom edge.
I made up a patch panel and got it tacked in place.

There were some pin holes in the trunk handle area and I needed to fill all the holes anyways so I wheeled up a large patch for that area and got it tacked in.....

wow amazing build, i hope one day i have something even close to those kind of metal working skills.
Thanks AZ40.
You can always learn by going to a metal shaping meet somewhere.
There are two good websites for this if you're interested.
A few more pics on the welding and slapper dolly work.....

Thanks,
Thats nice work..I do a bit of steel work, but only on our own cars now..Never was that good at it,but I get by with a little filler..Your skills are good,so is your coupe..:cool:
Thanks for the kind words lamin8r.
This deck lid is becoming a long project.
I'm still busy tapping away.
Once I get to the top of the repair, I may go bact to the bottom and start tapping away all over again to get out all the imperfections.
This is a good opportunity to really learn some slapper and dolly skills.
I got the deck lid skin pretty much done.
I found a few dings to work out after I sprayed the inside with epoxy.
http://www.clubhotrod.com/photopost/...44_Medium_.jpg
I then had to move to the inner panel.
There was bondo hiding some holes as well and the whole lower edge had rotted out.

That nasty old deck lid came out super, Pugs!!!! Some really nice pingin' and dingin'!!!!
Thanks Dave.
I found a self inflicted ding in it after I hit it with epoxy....DOH. :whacked:
So a little more pinging and dinging is in the near future.
got a bit of repair to do on the back of the Plymouth now--and it's all painted!!!:CRY::CRY:[/QUOTE]
Don't you just hate when that happens. been there done that
It should be criminal to park a body on over that chassis artwork--------
And that's it, I'm putting all my tools in a yard sale and taking up checkers!!!!!! Perley
Yup........... If I was closer to you I'd throw my stuff in your yard sale and we would play after..........:D
Pugs, just found this thread today, not quite thru yet, but great work. Like what your doing with the front end, and that chassis, well........:D:D:D should say it all.
I hit the lid with some SPI epoxy.
This stuff really shines for primer.

Thanks for gawkin',
very nice metal work there pugsy i have been beating on metal for 36 years and i wish i had the time to do what your doing .i was going to start making alum parts for my goat. pick up the plains to make a wheel .just to many engines to machine and build .at one time i could beat/ slap file on body metal all day and night . l was happy with that like i was in my right mind and i did that till my arms started to fall off me
Exceptional job, Pugsy. Between you, Pat, Dave, and Pro Z (plus several others) I've learned more here in the last five years than I have in in the 20 before that. You guys do some amazing work and it's a pleasure to watch.
Ditto above comments, nice work!
Thanks Guys.
Its not perfect but a little filler is allowed.
Finally got back to the chassis work.
I made up a couple of rad support posts and two outriggers to mount the new front clip on.
I welded two tabs at the top of the support posts and bolted two tabs to the bottom of the frame rails for the radiator isolators to bolt on to.
http://www.clubhotrod.com/photopost/...59_Medium_.jpg
I finally got the new (used) mill running and machined out the tabs for the rad.
These will bolt to two 1/4'' aluminum side plates. The plates will then be welded to the rad to spread the load rather than just having the tabs welded to the sides of the rad.

Rubber isolators I found on line.
They are good for 55LBS each in shear.

Thanks for looking,
Nice looking mounts Pugs, should work out great!
BTW, what did you buy for a mill????
Thanks Dave.
I got one of these babies:

Of coarse this is 3 weeks later after painting and changing all the broken stuff.
Nice mill, digital read out and all!!!!!
Nice work on the brackets!. One of those mills is pretty trick to have!
Crazy Cool build and i thought i had alot of metal work in my ride wow impressive!
Thanks George.
The front metal is taking forever.
I did manage to get the pasenger side grill opening cut out.
I'll post some pics later.
I cut out the second grill opening, made up the collar and got it tacked in place.

Got it welded and found the shape was way off.
I had to get the torch and BFH out and start adjusting.
You can see the heat marks in the pic below.

Thanks for looking,
Great looking grille openings! As always really first rate metal workin' Pugs!!!!!
Thanks Dave.
Pics make it look better than it is.
Lots of waves and wows to take out........Its driving me crazy!!!!!!!!
Yeah, it takes some dingin' and pingin' time to get everything right.
I hate it when things drive a guy crazy, for me it's such a short trip!!!!!!!!!:whacked::whacked::LOL::LOL:
Looking at the 1/8" thick steel headlight plates was also driving me crazy with the lousy connection seam at the fender and the disgusting welds in the back.
I made a hammerform and made up a new plate.
http://www.clubhotrod.com/photopost/...66_Medium_.jpg
Cut out the opening......
http://www.clubhotrod.com/photopost/...85_Medium_.jpg
And tacked in place.....
http://www.clubhotrod.com/photopost/...01_Medium_.jpg
Welded up and the proud ground off. Still needs planishing and metal finished.
http://www.clubhotrod.com/photopost/...09_Medium_.jpg
And here's a shot of the piece I cut out. Its self explanetory as to why it was driving me nuts looking at it.
