The Moonstone Grey is a nice subtle color, tooks terrific with burgundy/maroon accents (wheels, pin stripes, interior). It's very much like an earlier Ford color known as Folkstone Grey, actually could be the same formulation but named differently for the Mercury buyers, or could be the same basic formula with some very slight tweaks.
Another original Ford color to consider that runs in the vein of that Beetle Blue (I believe they called it Vapor), but less girlie, is Cloud mist grey (pictured below). Yeah, it's green to most people, but it does lean toward a sage tone with grey to it. Works well with yellow/tan/taupe tones (the red wheels just don't do it for me on this one).
The best thing about "building" your car from the thinkin' chair is it's done quickly, no bloody knuckles, and it's cheap!Your Uncle Bob, Senior Geezer Curmudgeon

This one looks to be about the same color as Bob posted, but maybe a little closer to the V.W. I like the tinted glass look with this color.

Pops, I was kidding about that title you know
Stovens and Bob, Thanks guys for the great pics. I agree with your picks on color and those two pics you provided are great examples of that. This car needs a subtle color in my opinion. It is big and classy.
I did almost fall out of my chair twice while I was sitting and pondering.....so I almost did get some bloody knuckles even in this phase of the project (must come from me getting old)
Valentines day today so my normal Monday at the shop will be interupted, BUT Taylor deserves one day a year of me not going to the shop on Mondays. Business as normal though starting tomorrow.
Thanks again everyone for the suggestions, kudos and pics.

Last night I was watching that new Larry the cable guy show and it was partially on moonshiners. They had a 47 Fordor with a 56 Caddy Eldorado engine with 2 x 4's on it. It was a real time capsule and hauled butt too.

That picture of the Merc convertible made me sit up straight as wouldn't they be rare now. I lke the soft grey colour too Don Jr with the dark red wheels and trim.I maybe a little crazy but it stops me going insane.
