1934 Ford 5 Window Coupe Hot Rod

I got some more of the wiring done. Got most of the dash wired up. Having trouble with the ignition switch. When I get it tightened up enough so it doesn.t turn in the hole the key won't turn. If i back it off the swith turns and it won't go into start position. I'll just get a new switch and see that will work.

It has all Stewart Warner gauges. Haven't decided if I want to use the ammeter or change out to a voltometer.

I wanted to have turn signal and park lights in front but I couldn't find any that I liked. So I just put on some cowl lights that had both in them.

Had to remove the electric fan of of the fan shroud. There was no way it was going to fit no matter what I did. Although the generator fan does fit in the fan shroud hole.

I like your coupe more every time I see it.........such a solid survivor. You might hit the local Marine supply store in your area, like West Marine or similar, for the ignition switch. They carry Cole Hersee brass ones that have a long threaded stem and a nut on the front and back so you can really torque it down. Not cheap, something like $ 38, but I tried to go cheap on the 27 and bought an Autozone special. I had the same trouble as you, couldn't torque it tight enough so it wouldn't spin when I turned the key. I got the Cole Hersee one and it is perfect and will last a zillion years.

Thanks Don! I just got a new one at NAPA. It seems to work fine.

Still messing with the radiator shroud. I had to cut a hole in it so I can remove the distributor cap. Hopefully this is the last time I pull it off.

Restored a 1948 Ford steering wheel for the 34.
I decided to use this instead of the other one I had.

Finally had some time to work on the 34. Fabbed up a mounting bracket for the "vintage" oil filter. Made it sturdy enough not to flex the firewall.

I was thinking of using copper lines for the filter but since it's mounted on the firewall and not the engine it needs to be flexible. I didn't want to use rubber hose for several reasons and went with braided SS lines.

I'm in agreement with Don on your coupe. Absolutely lovely!!! The rake, the new motor and that steering wheel looks so good, I am so envious.;););)

Finally got everyhting to fit right. They just didn't make enough room under the hood in the Model 40s. 2" longer would have made a world of difference.

There is just something so special about survivors like this one and Jacks coupe. It is almost sacreligious to repair their paint and upholstery. These are cars you literally dust off and drive the wheels off of. :D:D

Yes, I agree. I also believe that we don't really own them. Yes, we paid for them but that is merely the fee we paid to become their caretakers. Eventually it will be passed down to someone else to look after it.

:LOL: It's been so long since I have driven mine (except for one short trip to the house from the shop to make room for the wifes car in the shop) when I do get it on the road again I will be driving it for a good long while. When I do finally give it up, if none of the grand kids show an interest in it I will most likely sell it.:CRY:

Yes, we are at 6,800 feet altitude. It's about 10 degrees right now. :eek:

I haven't been working on the 34 for about 3 months now. Had some issues with the radiator and head studs leaking. I had a brand new Brassworks radiator and it was leaking at the seam on the bottom tank. Also some of the head stud bolts were leaking. I was so frustrated i just took a break for awhile.

I removed the radiator and took it to a local shop to have them fix it. JB Radiator in ABQ. Dropped it off in the AM and picked it up in the PM. Best thing yet he didn'e even charge me for it.

The studs I pulled out and used pipe sealant on them. To make sure they didn't leak, on top I used a n o-ring and tapered washer.

I aslo found these 61-62 Ford hub caps.

It's roofing repair peel and stick. Aluminun and butyl rubber. Costs way less than Dynamat and is practically the same stuff.

Got the 34 running half way decent today and drove it around the block. Drives like a 76 year old car. Still needs an exhaust system.

Dropped the car off at Mild to Wild Classic last Friday to have the upholstery completed and to go over a few things to get it safely on the road. Mild To Wild Classics

I've seen their work and they do a good job. Going to finish it like it was started in the 70's style. Keeping it period correct when it being built by the original owner.

I also stopped at the NM MVD and got a NM title, RT 66 plate and registration. So when it's done at the shop I should be able to drive it home.

Such a neat car, and a great find, and you're doing a great job keeping it period correct, IMO. Looking forward to seeing it back from the upholstery shop!

You'll probably get a little milder treatment here on your choice to go with that fabric and pattern than elsewhere................;)

You might experience some exhaust fume reversion through the bottom of the rumble lid with the tail pipes that way. If you do, turn down tips would belp.

Absolutely gorgeous interior and it certainly looks period correct to me. Interesting comment from Bob also, was the deck-lid only hinge like that if it had a rumble seat fitted and only a luggage boot had the hinges on the top?? Are those Porter mufflers that you have used also?

Thanks, just trying to continue what the previous owner had started back in the 70's.

The trunk was originally a trunk and was changed to a rumble seat. I will be changing it back into a trunk.

The mufflers are Smithys.

The interior is absolutely drop dead gorgeous!!!! What a great design!

The interior change was a great touch to off set the velour . Hard to remember the time period for me but I do like the look .

I haven't post on here for awhile. I did have the 34 on the road back in September The steering was really hard in turns and had a lot of play in the box of the original 34 Ford box. So I decided to change a F1 box that should make it easier to steer.

I found one on dabay that was pretty good shape but I rebuilt it anyway since it was out. I got a Vern Tardel mounting flange to get the right mounting angle. I had another cross steer box I cut the steering shaft off so I would have a tapered keyed shaft so I could still use the 48 steering wheel.

Finally got the F1 steering box installed. Definitely not a bolt on project. A F100 box would have worked better. I'll know this next time.:rolleyes:

The box is really close to the header but if I moved it over it rubs the clutch pedal.

It drives/steers so much better now, like a 60 year old car not an 80 year old one!

OMG that thing is sooooo cool. I love the flathead and the wear & tear on the paint. Every time you post another picture my computer goes nuts from the drool in the keyboard!! If it wants to come to Kansas for a change of scenery some time there's a home away from home waiting for it near Gardner!! Love it!!
