Question Custom painting and Engraving by Latisha

    Hi Everyone!!

My name is Latisha Wood and my specialty is custom paint work. I was recently featured on Discovery channel for my innovative painting and engraving techniques I did on the David Mann bike for "American Chopper" . Since having this awesome technique featured on TV ive had several bike builders and classic car owners interested in my work. Recently I made a trip to Daytona for bike week where I had a tremendouse response to my work not only by the general public but also the EAsyriders Centerfold Tour. To see my etchings first hand and gleaming in the sun is truly a one of a kind. Id love to start introducing my work into the custom car sceen as I think the results would be amazing!!

    Thanks for you time,
    Latisha Wood

    Hi Latisha,

You did a job beyond words with the paint on that bike! And yes, I hunted for a website afterward. While the car is nowhere near the paint stage, if I can use your services when I get to that point, I hope I'd definitely look you up.

Those effects were spectacular! Hope to see more of your work on American Chopper . Good luck with the business .

    Custom Cars

    Well thank you to everyone!!

Youde be suprised to know that it has been difficult finding clients that are willing to take the chance and let me create some awesome etchings on there bikes/cars. I just recently went to Daytona and it was great because I was able to speak to alot of the big time builders as well as some of the smaller guys. What I really want to do is start showing my work to cars guys that would actually get something done. I am very excited to get my work on this level because I feel it will really be appreciated. Given larger spaces on a car I would be able to really creat some amzing immaginative pieces of art. As well all know the cars are a piece of art in themselves so many people dont want o take away from that.

If I could ask you all a question. What shows would be my best bet on showing my work to some of these builders and owners?
Who are some guys that really are interested in seeing my work as well as having me do work for them??

Thanks so much for your time!!

In the midwest, two of the best places to be is the Detroit Autorama (unfortunately, this just took place at the begining of the month) and the Woodward Dream Cruise.

At the Detroit Autorama, they had a complete area set up for custom stripers and airbrush artists. I'm hoping they keep this as part of the show.

As for the Dream Cruise, there will be approximately 2 million people and 40,000 cars. There are displays throughout the entire 20 mile strip from Detroit to Pontiac, MI. You might want to check with the organizers on the best location to set up shop. I believe this year it's August 21st. Come join the crowd.

Another couple thoughts would be the Grand National Roadster Show in LA in January would be a good place, as well as the Good Guys National in Louisville, KY this summer.

Good luck with the business. Unfortunately, I'm two or three years from paint .

Thanks so much for that info Swifter. I did know that detroit was a hot spot for this market and also the Good Guys car shows. I heard that Good Guys were tough to get into. But have yet to get to there cars shows myself.

I feel my best bet as a painter in to contact builders and let hem see my work. I know of a few....mostly the guys youve seen featured on TV or on the web.

Do you know of any that I might have missed?

AS much as I love working on bikes.....I absolutly love customized cars.

Thanks again for the info. when your ready for paint.....keep me on your mind even if its years from now good luck

    Hello again to everyone,

Right now I am getting a few projects started and finished for this coming month. Very excited about any project I work on. Ill be creating a commintioned memorial artwok for bike builder Indian Larry. I am also wanting to create a few small etchings for me to sell at the shows I attend.

As for my works being hung on the wall that it often the case. Ive also thought about making them into center pieces for furniture as well as addditions to homes, tops of doors, railing on stairs.... etc. With the craft of metal work the options are endless. Really to have this on a classic car, rolling down the street with the sun blaring, would be the ultimate ....... I think.
    I just keep dreaming

Thanks for everyones interest in my work,
    Latisha Wood
