Actually the nuts are just "almost" touching the springs. There is actually a small amount of play between the nut and spring. Decieving view but it is what it is..

The bottom pic looks more like yours except the shock is already at full extension and that's ride height!
Might as well weld in a pipe or rod for all the good that one did me!
