    Distributor shaft endplay

How critical is the amount of endplay you have in the distributor shaft? I'm using a stock Duraspark distributor and the Ford spec calls for .024 -.035 inches of endplay. I think I may be closer to .040 on mine. How much will this affect my timing or the way the engine runs? Thanks...

    Ah a newbie - welcome

Now - end play. Once you start the engine the dist gear will 'walk' up the cam gear so your timing will be fine (heck, I think my SB Ford MSD Billet dist has .040 or more and it's new)
