Well, I got confirmation from Sehr that the cover they put on my engine is not for a reverse rotation pump, so I am good to go as far as I can tell. I still do not understand how there can be any difference between those two timing covers when the flow through the engine is the same, and the only difference is the rotational direction of the water pump impeller, considering that the pump does not use the timing cover as a pump chamber - it is sealed on the back side. It boggles my mind that the 90017 cover is "for reverse flow pump applications only".
