The head would be the same as the 289 -302 head.
I would think the head is cracked, I don't remember
the head bolts going in to the water jacket.
If it is cracked though don't get mad, go get some
early 289 -302 heads and up the compression for
more HP. Say about 1966-67 closed chambered.
Look for the raised letters C6 or C7 It will have some
numbers or letters after that but it will start with these.
C is for the sixty's decade and the number is for that
year in the sixty's. Oh and the valve is a little smaller
but the HP increase is well worth it. And this will improve
the fuel millage. I have done this before but it's been some
time ago. And you can allways have bigger valves installed
