    302 hop up

     



    Hey everyone!
    I just bought an 1989 Fox with an 1995 302 in it; i want to make it quick and be able to drive it on the street once in a while.

    I have already put in subframes connectors and a roll cage. Next is a short throw shifter and 4.10 gears.

    After that, i'm at a lost as to what to do to it (to the motor).

    I' m planning to race it once per one or two months but the rest of the time it's gonna be on the street.

    I have 1200$ to put in this year, and then 5K every other year for the next 3 or 4 years.

    So what do you suggest? Exhaust, suspension, etc. Oh yeah! I forgot to say, i want it to have an amazing handling on the street.

    A good set of bars for the back and some long tube headers will help the car a bit. The 5.0's really come to life with the Pro Charger Supercharger on them, just make sure you have a good solid engine with the correct compression ratio and camshaft to get the most out of the Pro Charger.....

    Is there any parts that i have to worry about when using a supercharger? (that is, beside having the engine in good order and well tuned?

    I'd suggest to go with the supercharger manufacturer's recommendation on compression ratio, run forged pistons, and a really first rate cooling system!!!! There are a number of companies setting up and calibrating carburators specifically for supercharged cars, along with ignition systems with a timing retard feature that takes timing away from the engine as the boost pressure and rpm increases.... After that, an intercooler for the supercharger just serves to make a good system even better!!!!

    I'm not trying to sell a Pro Charger system, but I have installed them before and they make a really great system for the 5.0's and their literature has very specific recommendations on what all should be done to the engine itself.... I'm sure other companies have the same thing, I'm just more familiar with ProCharger....

    Sounds like a great set up, I am not sure of the cost but probably 3000 to 4000 bucks should cover it. After you eat that 1200 up in the rear end and frame connectors you can decide from there what to get next.

    The bottom line is the newer 5.0 blocks can only handle 450 to 475 hp at the crank which can be done with the 331/347 with good heads and a good hyd. roller cam.
    If you are wanting more than that take a look at the Dart block.
    On some of the other Ford forums you will get a lot of complete B.S.
    They all claim they have 550 + hp which would really push the limits of a stock 5.0 block.
    If you don't mind a little hood scope you could always build a 408/ 418 Windsor with a stock 351 Winsdor block and a stroker crank.
    The 351 W block will handle the 550 hp area.

    With $ 1200 to spend right now you are going to be somewhat limited. The 4:10 gears will chew up a little of that, so next I would step up to a hotter Motorsport cam. You probably could get away with an X cam with those gears. Headers would be on my list, with some Flowmasters and an X pipe. Maybe some bigger injectors and fuel pump too.

    Racing been searching something on the same guide lines recently . I just ran up on this power combinations site . Looks really impressive and a few combo builds which i think are great . Not a big builder here but it breaks it down a little so even i can under stand it some LOL .
