    which carb to go with

ok so i'm canning the old fomoco carb on top of my stock shelby 289 in my mustang, the thing is not a reliable carb, its been rebuilt and it still just sucks... so now i'm trying to decide which carb to go with... the car is an automatic at the moment but will be a manual probably in the next year or so... until then i need a decent driveability carb.... i saw this http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku
carb listed on summit as a direct plug and go carb for my car....
and for now i'm trying to keep the carb on a budget since after i go manual i'm going to be changing to mechanical secondaries.... look like a good budget 4bbl choice to you guys? or somethin else you might reccomend?
just because your car is faster, doesn't mean i cant outdrive you... give me a curvy mountain road and i'll beat you any day

It's a very good choice. But why change to mechanical secondaries with a manual tranny? Vacuum will let your motor take what it needs/wants, mechanical will give your motor gas, whether it can use it or not. Good for race, not for street.

there may be a little racing now and then with this car.... and as long as i get myself used to the gas pedal control i'll be just fine, and fuel economy wont be too big of an issue because the tranny i'm going to put in is a T56 6 speed double overdrive

got the 4160 today.... ended up paying $180 for a brand new one, if you know the way parts stores work then you can get one hell of a deal, i got 4 different stores prices that all had beat competitors price garauntees, started at $240, broght a quote from the cheapest bidder to the highest bidder, they dropped off 5%, the brought that quote to the next highest store, and so forth.... after a few hours of driving around town and dealing with parts stores.... i got my carb for super cheap

When you go to the 6 speed I wouldn't go any bigger than a 650 DP an you're liable to have to jet it back a bit. The 289 I have in my Mustang has a Comp cams 268H grind and an old 650 DP. I believe I've got 62's in the primary and 66's in the secondary and it's still a tad rich. I think I'd opt for a 600 DP if you want to run a Holley. BTW, tech hates the cam as it's just a bit lumpy.

and yes that little Kcode 289 will probably only get a 600DP when i put the 6 speed in.... if anything i can always jet up a little if i have to

Wow, ain't that the truth, Denny??? As spring is approaching I see they are sneaking upwards on the fuel prices again, dang theives!!!! Glad I don't have a lengty commute everyday, now that I work out of my little shop at home, the commute to work is about 20 steps!!!! My local parts suppliers deliver, and of course the big brown truck brings most of the high performance goodies right to the door. I did have to put gas in the Bonneville last month and that will probably hold me til April!!!!! Because of my physical limitations I'm somewhat limited on the revenue I can generate, but I've found a lot of effective ways to control expenses.

Looks like when summer gets here I'll be able to afford to do a bunch of good time cruising......

4bbl holley 4160 vaccum seconds 65 or so front jets put in a light secondary spring diaphrapm ( yellow the long one not the short) faster response on the secondarys for hard acceleration. does very well on mileage 16-20. electrice choke for easy starts.
