My 1st motor buildup
Its the 289 i pulled from my mustang. It is bored .60 over with a Edelbrock cam, lifters, 500cfm carb, crane cams pushrods and valve springs, harland sharp roller rockers, 7 qt. moroso oil pan, and hooker headers.

Well done!!! If it runs as good as it looks it will be a great motor!!! When does it get installed and fired????Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

i like the fact that you didn't 'over carb' the motor as so many do.

Dave- it'll prolly be a few more months before its installed.
53fatfndr-I went with Harland Sharp rockers from Jegs.
SBC-I'm glad somone agreed with me. I've had a lot of people tell me i needed to put a 650 on it but i usually just give them a look about like this....

Those are the same people that don't realize how stupid they are when it's just simple math that chooses the proper carb size. Go too big and your just wasting money, in more ways than oneOriginally posted by user101

I like those Harland Sharps. Any idea on the power output? Do you know anybody that has experience with that Edelbrock cam? I'm gearing up to do a 302 of mine in the next few years...just gathering information as I go along.....same family as your 289.

It seems like the H.S. put out a 20-30% increase in power(i could be wrong tho). I dont know anyone that has experience with the cam.Originally posted by 53fatfndr

Can anyone shoot me a ballpark number on the horsepower and torque i should have with this setup.
Also I'll be running a 16in. rim with a 225/60 tire. will the 60 be wide enough to put the power to the ground or should i go to a 55.65 Mustang Coupe 289

you probably really only gained about 30 or so HP off of that which would put you in a ballpark of 240-260 depending on what heads you have and so forth.... congrats on a first time motor build.... i remember mine.... i ended up having to rebuild it a few days after i fired it up.... and find a new crank
just because your car is faster, doesn't mean i cant outdrive you... give me a curvy mountain road and i'll beat you any day

The 50 and 60 do not designate the width of the tread. The first number (235) indicates the tread width in millimeters. The 50/60 is the aspect ratio, or the ratio of the height of the tire from the bead to the tread surface divided by the section width (widest point of the tire). If a tire is 300 millimeters section width and 150 millimeters from bead to tread, you would divide 150 by 300 and come up with a figure of .50, or 50 series. If the tire is 300 millimeters section width and 180 millimeters from bead to tread, you would divide 180 by 300 and come up with .60, or 60 series. The larger the series number, the softer the ride will be, but you will give up cornering ability. A 75 series tire will give you a great ride, but it will roll over on itself if you try some serious cornering with it. A 40 or 35 series tire will corner better, but the ride quality suffers. Hope this helps.Originally posted by user101

Hey user, that is one real clean build up! I like that. I bet you put time on the inside as well as the outside. That is one sweet looking engine.

the guy who did the machine work... didn't get all the glass beads out of it when he put the crank in.... which i woulda prefered to do myself.... but just one glass bead can destroy an engineOriginally posted by user101

It would be nice if this up and down crap would cease.
