    Which Automatic with 5.0?

I am planning to build a Shell Valley Model A roadster. I will be using a 5.0 HO bottom end with (probably) TrickFlow Twisted Wedge heads, and a carb.

Will a C-6 fit with the 5.0 HO block? Or do I need to go C-4? AOD?

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

There are C-6's that will fit. The AOD would be a good choice, too.

The c6 would be a bit heavy for a 5.0L. You'd have better luck finding a c4. Also a FMX is an option for the 5.0L, but im not too sure of their track record. The AOD isnt really built to snuff for a motor with any decent power, but it can be built up by any performance transmission shop. With gas @ $2.50 a gallon, its a viable option.

At this point my other engine option is a 351W short block from Advanced Engine Exchange, fitted with Performer heads, cam, intake and carb.

With this combo I would use either a C-6 or C-4 Sizzler from TCI and rear end gearing around the 3.25 range.

So, C-4 or C-6 and why?

if its going to be a built for high power tranny, i'd go with the c-4, its lighter weight, so it'll put less of a load on the engine, and also keep the vehicle weight down as well.... the other option i'd reccomend is an FMX its somewhat the predecessor of the c-6, but as far as i've know from experience, are a lot tougher than the c-6 and weigh in a little lighter, the only thing with them i've been annoyed by, is when running them on a 302, you've gotta get the 351 flexplate to fit for the starter, i messed with that problem for a long time, and transmission shops had no clue what i needed
just because your car is faster, doesn't mean i cant outdrive you... give me a curvy mountain road and i'll beat you any day

I was gonna go with a C-6 Behind my 351 cleveland but after talking to few friends that race small block fords that are real fast, talked me into a built C-4.

C6 is too big and heavy. Especially if your putting it in a car. A C4 is better. www.fordmuscle.com They have a article in there to tell you how to build a C4 and what to use and not to use. Check it out.

Definitely the C4 or the aod. Or even the aode. You would probably have to tweak the aod with a higher stall converter and shift kit at the least and you can just reprogram the aode with the stand alone controllers that are available. The C4 has very little parasitic draw on your hp unlike the aod and aode which will suck about 25 hp just for the privelige of overdrive. However, you can run some 4.11 gears for the kick in the butt and shift to overdrive for the equivalent of a 3.00 highway cruising gear above 45. I like it.
