    Need some 302 help

    Hello to All

I have a problem I need to answer and am writing to see if any of you knowledgeable people can help. I have a 302 2v motor out of a 78 or 79 fairmont that I am going to build to install into my 63 round body falcon, when looking for a crank kit I have been asked to provide the casting numbers from the old crank. Now here is the problem, for the life of me I can’t find the old crank I have looked everywhere and no crank. I am to understand that I have two choices a crank stamped “2M, 2MA, 2MBA, or 2MAD” all of which will fit and is the most common application or a crank stamped “2MAE” which will cause vibration problems if the wrong crank is used. I’m sure the block didn’t change so can anyone tell me how to resolve this problem? Is it just a matter of choosing the right balancer and flywheel? I don’t want to have to have a trail by error, had too many of those in the past. I don’t want to have to start from scratch because I already have $250.00 in the block. I am also open to any and all suggestions towards the remaining pieces of the engine. I’m trying to get around 300+ horses with mostly stock parts. If you know of anyone who can offer any help please let me know. I would like to thank you in advance for taking the time to read this and help if possible.

    Tom

doesn't matter what balance crank you buy as long as the balancer and flywheel match up to it...... i reccomend finding a good shop that does balancing and asking them this question... they'll give you the best help on it.... i dont think in the year motor you have there was the internally balanced crank yet.... i believe those weren't til 80 somethin... but i could be wrong... might be nice to upgrade to one of those fluid balancers when you get the crank though.... keeps the balancer from slipping
just because your car is faster, doesn't mean i cant outdrive you... give me a curvy mountain road and i'll beat you any day
