Well, for some reason it wouldn't work the first time. after i posted i went back out, pulled the motor again and took the fly wheel back off. looked over everything to see if i could tell where it was hitting. didnt see anything so i put it all back together and installed the motor again. now it all works fine. something wasnt right but it seems fine now.
the flywhell and converter im useing on the 289 came off the 302 that came out of the truck. the stuff that came off the 289 was to small to work with my starter.
Im guessing i didnt have the converter lined up right. sometimes it happens if you remove the converters.
Now im going to have to round up all new brackets for my alt and power steering pump. i thought i could use the water pump off the the 302 on the 289 and then use all the brackets that came off but the timeing chain covers are diff. the 302 has a silled plate on the back of it to channel the water and the 289 is open so it uses turned out pieces that channel the water. anyway, all the mounting places for the brackets are a diff lenghts not to mention the pump itself is shorter so ill have to round up new pulleys aswell.
time to head to the junkyard eh? unless anyone exactly what i need
Thanks all
