    1963 Ford 427 sedan

I have an opportunity to purchase a 1963 4dr sedan with a factory 427 4spd. The engine had been completely rebuilt with receipts ($3,300) 9 years ago and is still in the crate from the engine rebuilder. All numbers and codes appear to be correct. It also has its factory 4spd also newly rebuilt. The body is all there and pretty solid black with red interior but it needs body work, chrome, paint and full interior. Can anyone here tell me the answers to the folowing questions:

    1. What is it worth as-is?
    2. What would it be worth restored since it is just a 4dr?
    3. What would the engine alone be worth?
    4. How big of a crime would it be to seperate an original 427 car and engine?

4 door 4 speed car?? Gotta be rare. Put it together and sell it, buy lots of neat toys. No idea what the value is, might want to check in Hemmings or with some of the Galaxie purist club types.

yep has to be rare, I have seen only one early 60's 4 door ford w/a stock 4spd. I believe it was a 63-65 Galaxie, it was red w/red leather interior w/a 4 spd. I ask the guy why he would put a 4 spd in a 4door car & he said, wellllll, I ordered it that way, as you can see I have a family BUT still want my Hot Rod so I got the best of both worlds.....joe

Yes I understand that is very rare, but rare doesn't mean that it is desireable OR valuable. That's what I'm trying to figure out if it is either. It is a factory "R" code dual quad 4spd, but does it have a value greater than that of its engine alone?

    Pretty sure

Well I'm a Galaxie guy, and is your car a 500 or custom? You pretty much hit it on the head, the car isn't worth much more than the engine, but your engine is worth alot!! 4 doors are getting more popular these days, since you can fit the whole fam in the car, and if you have a 64 Gal you can fit two families in it! I would say this car restored, with this engine is still worth in the 5-7000 range, depending on how much is original, how nice the interior, etc. I own two four door galaxies, unfortunately with little ole 352s. One is a little more desirable since it has power brakes, power steering, and swing away steering, which is fairly rare in Galaxies. That car completely restored is worth around 4-5000, but would probably only sell for 3500-4000, tops. your car would sell for what its worth because of the engine. Good luck with it and keep us informed. I would be interested in seeing pics of this car if you have them!

It's a 500. I've had people e-mail me and offer $6K for the engine alone. Somebody else wanted to buy the title and VIN tags for $2K.
