    picked up another FE

I was on ebay and found what the guy said was either a 292 or 332 out of a 59 fairlane. I wnet and looked at it today. It came home with me. It is deffinately an FE. Now I need to tear it apart to see what I really got. I am thinking it is a 60's era FE. It seems to be parts from several different motors. I think yhe timing cover is from a 63 and intake from 68. The exhaust manifolds are from 58 or 59. I am new to the FE game but am getting excited to tear into it and see what I can find out. But for $100 bucks with trans I think I made out ok.

in 1959 only a 332 or 352 were avaible.390 did not come along until 1961.the 352 did come in a 300 hp. police incept. and if i not mistaken they came with mech. lifters and adj. rocker arms.

!959---trans choices were automatic, 3 speed stick, 3 speed overdrive

If you have a clutch / bell housing its a stick

Police interceptors had solid lifters as did the 292s, 332 and 352 hydraulic lifters

    more info

i took off the head today. The best I can tell with a tape is 3.784 stroke. the bore is visibly larger than 4". I need to find some calipers to measure exact. Just guessing right now but looking like a 390. But who knows could be 406.

    after more investigation

After more cleaning, looking, measuring, and some good old math I believe I have a 1963 model 390. I know casting numbers can't tell ya what it is but they are accurate on when it was built right? It seems to have 1961 heads on it. The exhaust manifolds seem to have been designed for a 63 T-Bird. Now for the trans, casting number says 61. on the other side is a tag that I assume is a date code says jan. 30, 63 is that normal. And what were the tranny options for those years? It is an auto matic
