    And more confusion!!!!!!

I was talking with a tech today about the multi-port EFI for my 428 and the discussion turned to cams..... How come the camshaft needed for an EFI engine is so much different then the cam for a carbed engine???? Is the EFI engine that much more efficient then a carbed engine or what???? And I thought I was getting to understand this EFI stuff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Are you looking at speed density, or mas? speed needs vacumm to to control the ecu, which means less duration in the cam, mas uses air flow to control it, and does not need the vacumm. most oem EFI's only good to about 5000rpms, aftermarket or modifiyed oem, will tac up higher.
In the EFI world carbs are toilets, that just flush the gas in, if it needs it or not, and wash you rings, which shortens the life of the motor.
Want to now more, build your own efi, it's a little more work, looks better than bought kit, (I don't use a fuel rail, I think their ugly) and you'll save money, and will be able to fix it yourself. couple hundred for a ecu, and 1-2 hundred for wire harness, (I built my own harness) and the ijector adaptors are about $150.00.

    Just an idea.

    Change any intake to EFI

Pat that is a great looking Hemi! Very slick setup!

Dave keep us posted on what you find. I've never looked into the EFI conversion either.

FFR428 thanks, but thats not a pic of mine, I didn't use the plates under the manifolds, I retapped mine and put them right into the manifold where the original jets went. I also made my own dist, I use the top off a chevy small hei dist and the base of a hemi dist, so that I could convert it to electronic for the ecu, I made my own valley cover.
The pic of my hemi is before I converted it to electonic injectors, I removed the water pump and put a timing cover with a Hilborn fuel pump (dummy), and only a alt off the bottom pulley, I used a 12v marine water pump below, with tubes running up to the heads, with funny car type baffled headers & 15" stacks it looks like a dragster motor.

Great job on the injectors and the distributor!!!!!! Going to be a great looking and performing engine....

Did you do the injector bungs with 2 cutters? I was a bit concerned on how to get the seats correct... Thought maybe somebody might have some special tooling that did both sizes in one cut.....????????

Dave, I didn't make them, a guy named Fran Olson on the east coast has them made and sells them on ebay for $12.50 a piece polished, when I bought them. He has different types and polished or not, short or long, The ones I have, have a straight thread and seats flat against the manifold and not with a pipe thread, I feel it is a stronger hold. I got the hats that the fuel goes in the side, he also has it with fuel in the top, then I ran braided hose to a 1 in 8 out(plus a return line) gang block, that looks like the Hilborn one. With these holders you can drill a stock manifold near the port and use the carb for as a throttle body (with some mods), on any manifold. The guy originally needed them to convert the Lamborghini motor in the pic's.

At the time I bought them instead of making them myself because I was to busy with work, and I was making all the other parts I needed for the motor.

Thanks Pat! I've seen them on eBay, wondered about the quality now I know!!! I have the prints for making the bungs, but not sure it's worth the expense of buying the correct tooling to just make one set!!!!! Might just go with the store bought, looks like they will work out just fine... Thanks for the info

Dave, here is some reading, something you'll need, there are others out there, I have heard others that have use them and are happy with them.
I run Speed Density (MAP) on my Hemi, On '87 Mustang, '91 Corvette setup, I don't like the looks of the MAS valve, the only differenxce between Speed and MAS is the duration on the cam, Speed needs vacuum, in stead of air flow.

The one I'm putting on the '57 is a TPI, works on speed density. Thought I was going to get it fired up today, have a bad fuel pump relay and just too dang busy on other things!!!!! Hopefully I can get caught up next month and start working on my own for a change!!!!!!
