    Question 390 REVs

Every time i get the urge to really lay in to her i often wonder what my engine would like me to shift at. In other words what would be the max SAFE rpm for my engine? Its got MSD ignition/dist, Edelbrock 750, Hooker super comps, and the previous owner put a pretty hot cam in it (rough idle and the power really starts coming in at about 2500) and i'm not sure what the interanls have got but assuming there stock, minus a cam. So if any of you have ideas or personal experince of what these old monsters have got any info would be helpful. Thanks (P.S. i've had it to about 5100 myself)

Gut feel - unless you've been inside of the engine and/or heads, I wouldn't go too much higher. Lots of rotating mass, sloppy bearings, big valves and maybe weak valve springs and worn valve stems tend to make long oily streaks off the side of highways. A good condition FE? 7000 is easy, more is possible(probable)
