    C8AE-H heads & Headers....

I'm looking for some headers for my 39 in a 68' Mustang with manual trans.
I have the C8AE-H heads with the 8 bolt pattern.
And I have heard that this isn't so easy..

I've been looking around for some headers, and have only found one that sells headers that will fit straight on in the car, (FPA headers). But they are kinda difficult to get over here to Norway. So it get's a little more expensive than I had in mind.

So I've been lookin through some different FE forums and found out that Hooker have some headers that might fit.
But I also read that there will be some port mismatching and leakage problem?

But there must be is some one else that make headers that must fit these heads and in my car to a reasonable price? (5-600$)

Have also heard about the drilling thing to get the headers to fit, how is that carried out? And will that make the header selection easier?

    Thanks in advance.

I would suggest Hooker Super Comp. Tell them which flange kit you need on them. Mustang usally has the staggered bolt pattern if I remember. The
8 bolt vertical would be hard to get to the bolts. Try them, they work
    good. Not cheap though.

BTW I have FPA on my 57 Ranchero. It's a street car now w/429. I needed shorter headers with the
car so low. His quality is very good also. Good Luck

With the lower exhaust ports on the C8-H heads the 6114 super comps are not the best port match and can be prone to leaks. They have 16 bolt flanges that match the raised ports for the pre 66 heads and bolt patterns. FPA makes a header with the correct flange for lower ports on the C8-H GT heads. I'm using the 6114's in my Cougar on the tunnelport heads. Those used the raised ex ports and fit fine. They also have the 8 bolt vertical pattern. That is always fun but can be done. So while they will bolt up and fit the port somewhat they are not the best choice.

Also your C8 heads should have the extra bosses cast in to have the other holes drilled and tapped for the 14 bolt GT pattern. You need to be careful how deep you go tho. You can hit the water jacket if you go to deep. This would make it easier to install the headers. Any GOOD shop that knows FE heads can handle it.

Edit to add....check out Bob Sprowls site. He has pics of the C8-H GT and C6-R LR ex ports measured with calipers to see the differences.

yeah I have been to that site for some information. Much good info about the FE heads.
But about these FPA headers, how much do they cost in the US? I've sent them some mails but got no response back. My wife has some colleagues that have a vacation house down in Florida, and they could order and pick them up for me. But i gotta know what they cost, just about. Is it around the 500-600$ range?
Because dealers that does american cars here take 1500$ for a set of the FPA headers...
And that is a lot more than I had in mind.

About these 6114 super comps headers, and I drill out some more holes in the head, will it port match better? Or is that just to make the instal easier and make better sealing?

I'd think yes they would be in the $500 range painted. Ceramic coated run closer to $700+.

The super comps have 16 hole flanges so it's not the bolt pattern that's the problem. It's the lowered ports on the C8 heads. If you noticed in those pics the C8 ex ports are almost 1/4" lower. You can use the 8 bolt pattern on your heads. It's just a little difficult to get the bottom header bolts in and make tight. But it can be done. And with the smaller header bolts they have today not all that bad. So there is a very good the chance the super comps would leak. You really can't grind away that much on the Hooker header without extensive modifications to it. That's why I suggested the FPA's. In the near future the 390 with C8 heads in my car is coming out. I planned on taking pics of the 6114's bolted to the C8 heads for future information. But that's not for a few months still. But you'd clearly see the problem. I'd try calling FPA if you've not heard from them. Your emails might have ended up in their spam box. I'm using a ex gasket made by Remflex. They are made for sealing uneven head and exhaust surfaces. If you've ever seen the flanges on the 6114's there is about a 1/16" lip around the tubes where they poke thru the flange. At $60 a pair for the gaskets I'm hoping they work well.
