need info on fe 390

hello i have trashed my 1962 390 with a cruiseamatic tranny, so i have found a new motor out of a 73 pickup just rebuilt for the right amout of money. what i need to know will my 62 tranny work on a 73 390? please any help would be great, i don't want to lose out on this deal if it will work on my car. thanks again. john

Should fit fine.... Use the flexplate that comes with the motor just in case there is a difference in balance. Hopefully FFR will see this and clairfy for you.

It will fit with no problem.

Actuallty they are both engines are internally balanced. You will need to use the flywheel from the cruisomatic as I believe it is different than the flywheel on the 73 engine.

The starter that goes with the 62 engine/Cruiso combination has the Benix on the end of the starter shaft and pulls into the rear of the flywheel, while the newer style uses a more conventional starter that engages the front of the flywheel.

Dave and Mike got it covered. Just note the flywheel and starter things mentioned. The 73 block has the 4 bolt motor mount pattern. Just use the 2 holes that your old block used. The 62 blocks only had 2 motor mount bolt holes. Other than that you should be fine.
