I had the same question I asked one of the guy's on here and they told me that the date on the block is under the oil filter mount on the small angle ridge I got a 390 two and my date is under there, if I am right all the FE,s is there. If you can,t see it real good, use playdough on it and it should come out pretty good.It should look like someting like this 9A02. 9 for the year, A for the month, and 02 for the date.Dave

63 and earlier FE blocks have the date code above the oil filter adapter. Also they only have 2 bolt motor mount bosses on the block so they are pretty easy to spot. 69 and later block date codes have two dots under the first number. Look where Dave mentioned for 64 and later block date codes. Also some 68-69 and all 70's era service replacment blocks have no casting numbers. Casting numbers can be PMU to ID some FE blocks as some of the numbers were generic. You can also check the head casting numbers between the center two spark plugs and most head date codes are under the valve cover between the center two valve springs. Things like the crank, rods, dizzy, intake etc...will all have a casting number and can be ID'd easily. Post what you find and we can go from there.
