Talking CJ Heads: some valve bearing trouble

    Hi people!
well, I was prepairing for some portmatching on the heads and intake, when I found this...
    (look at pics)
what you're looking at is a broken/cracked casting where the valvebearings of the intakevalves sit.

anybody got some ideas about this?
do i have a problem here?
I bought the heads when they were already rebuild and maged and hottanked, so it would be a setback if they are a write-off or need a new rebuildingjob!

    any thought is welcome, thanx,
    tom

some body put a new guide in and broke some out. as long is that guide is good press it will be fine i have weld them up but would not do it if they are done this can happen if the valve gets bent and break is part of the head or a hot head with a guide driver

Yep as Pat said they should be fine. It's fairly common to see on FE heads when the guides are replaced. I've had the guides replaced on a few sets of heads and a few of the guide bosses chipped as yours in the pics. G.

pfieeeuw!! was a little worried there!

But I probably will have to check if there aren't any other chips coming of, or are about to ... better now than when the engine is running, right?

Right and another concern would also be there is no further cracking involved also. In most cases that I've had it was just a chip and no further issues. Are those C8OE-N heads???

    Thumbs up

yes that's right a c8oe-6090-n casting, why do you ask?

and by the way... how are you able to see, from just a pic of the intakevalve-chamber, what head it is???
...and spot on with the casting number...

I mean, I know I'm just another newbie in this FE-engine stuff, but this is incredible... ( but hey, I'm quite easily astonished )
