    Ford 390 Rockers and shafts

    390 Rockers and shafts

It's taking me a long time it seems to finish this motor but all I lack at this point is the Valve train.

The machine work is done. It is balanced and I had the block decked to square it up, crank turned, rods resized, and 9.5-1 pistons. The valves and heads are ready to go as well. Nothing radical but I've already got $2K in the motor. This is the high performance 390 in my 65 T-bird. I want to be able to light up the tires once in a while!

Question is, my rockers and shafts are worn out and I was looking at the Harland Sharp roller rockers/Comp Cams roller rockers verses the Stock set-up. Anybody have advice one way or another? There is a Harland Sharp now on ebay with the bid a $250, the Comp Cams set up will run around 500+.

This is not for race but for fun!

What lift cam and valve spring pressures will you be running? G.

Well I would first get the recommended springs for the cam unless the ones you have are within pressures and lift spec'd by Comp. Second you can run the oem rocker setup but it will be marginal at best. You can slot the aluminum stands like the old iron ones to get a little better clamping pressure. I'd make sure you have a good set of rocker stands or the good shafts. Or even better both. I'm assuming your getting adjustables. Check out www.dscmotorsport.com Dennis sells nice spring kits and a few different rocker setups. You can match the lift and pressure on the Comps springs and then pick the rockers to match. Prices are good and many items have specs listed for easy shopping. Spending a little more now will save you major hassles and $$$$$ later. G.

Thanks for the information. I will check and see where I'm at. I'm so anxious to get this running but the money comes in slowly. But I want to do this right the first time!

    Thanks!
